Explain the use of water from different sources in the context of daily activities. S4ES-
IVb-2

Introduction:
Water comes from different sources. It may come from open or closed sources.
It may also come from a small body of water or a big body of water. It is a renewable
resource because of water cycle.
Three main sources of water:

1. SEAWATER or SALTY found in the seas and oceans. It contains plenty of


salt. It is called HARDWATER. As routes
Seawater serves as the habitat of aquatic plants and animals. Seas and
oceans are used for recreation such as swimming, boating and windsurfing.
They are also used a for routes locals and international transportation and
marine navigation.

2. FRESHWATER – also called as surface water. It is found in open but small


bodies of water like, rivers, lakes, creeks and ponds. It comes mostly from
rain.
Freshwater is used for cleaning, washing, bathing, preparing food and other
household uses. It is also used to water plants and given to animals to drink.
It is also used for recreation- swimming or boating. They can be serve as
routes of transportation and irrigation for farms and livestock watering and in
factories.

3. GROUNDWATER – found beneath the earth’s surface. it comes from water


that seeps into the ground called water table. It is a safe source of water-
cleanest source of water and contains plenty of dissolved minerals which
needed by the human body.
