Course Title : CAPSTONE PROJECT AND RESEARCH 1
Credit Units : 3.0
Course Description :

This course is the first part of the two phases of Capstone Project and
Research. Students are expected to produce a feasible innovative
information technology projects from which based on the purpose,
description and objectives of the study, the students are responsible
for developing the full set of requirements and milestones to guide the
design deliverables. The students then proceed through a systems design
process including system architecture, conceptual design, requirement
analysis, system flowchart, etc. from which they are required to present
a proposal project based on the given guidelines. Relevant topics on
system analysis and design concepts is also included in this course.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, students are expected to:

Cognitive

 Select, collect and use required information/knowledge to solve the


problem/complete the task.
 Prepare project proposals with action plan and time duration before
beginning of project.

Affective

 Communicate effectively and confidently as a member and leader of


team.
 Design and create an IT-based project in a team-based scenario.

Psychomotor

 Develop effective presentation material that will enhance


understanding of ideas being communicated.
 Present and defend the outcomes of the proposed IT-based project.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

 Explain the role of capstone project in the context of information


technology curriculum.
 Identify and discuss the different parts and contents of a capstone
project.

LESSON 1. AN OVERVIEW: CAPSTONE PROJECT AND RESEARCH

A capstone project is a culminating assignment, on which students


usually work on during their final year in school or at the end of the
academic program. It requires different intellectual activities. This
project helps young people learn how to find and analyze information and
how to work with it efficiently. It has a wide variety of forms.

The capstone project has become an integral part of the university


degree curriculum. It can take many various forms, but its purpose
remains the same. The capstone project is a unique opportunity to carry
out independent group research in order to devise an innovative solution
for a real-world problem. While a project of this scope and scale can be
challenging, it can also be very rewarding.

How to write a Capstone Project?

The capstone project is written during the final and most crucial stage
of education at the University/ College. What is its goal? Capstone
research project reflects knowledge and skills gained by a student
during the years of study. The student himself/herself decides the
questions put before him/her within the scope of the chosen topic. Thus,
it gives you some freedom. Writing a capstone project is a kind of
demonstration of the ability to analyze and synthesize material on a
specific topic, the ability to solve problems, develop student’s own
ideas and argue his/her application in practice. Therefore, it is an
important task.

Capstone program requires a full disclosure of a topic. The standard


capstone project paper consists of (based from CMO 25, series of 2015):

This is a sample structure of such papers. A significant role is played


by the research itself, the conclusions drawn from it, as well as
student-generated solutions.

Throughout the Capstone College course, the student must select the
appropriate sources from scientific literature on the topic, to conduct
research. The student can write a theory of a project consisting of
basic concepts, scientific ideas with their comparisons and methods of
research, studying and analyzing scientific theories, comparing the
point of view of modern researchers to this problem with their views on

the studied subject. What else to keep in mind? In-depth study of


problems of the subject gives the chance for its full research at the

recommendations will be a guarantee of quality and originality of the
Capstone project.
