To identify the different art elements and principles in the production of art following the various
movement styles in art.
To analyze the different principles of art that reflect the different moods, ideas, or messages
from the artwork of various movements.
To appreciate some of the famous artworks of the Impressionist painters by actively
participating in the discussion.
CONCEPT NOTES:
MODERN ART
Modern art is characterized by the contemporary styles of visual art and the result of various
social factors that saw the advancement of science and technology. It includes all the movements,
theories, and attitudes that reject traditional, historical, or academic forms, and conventions to create
art in a more advanced way with the use of modern technology.
THE IMPRESSIONISTS
Impressionism is a French 19 th-century art movement that portrays the effects of experience
upon the consciousness of the artist and his audience. It is characterized by short brisk strokes of
bright colors to recreate the impression of light on objects. Impressionist artists include Claude Monet,
Edouard Manet, Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, and Vincent Van Gogh.

PIERRE-AUGUSTE RENOIR (1841-1919)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was one of the central figures of the impressionist movement. His works
are full of sparkling colors and vibrant light.
He used a more disciplined and formal technique to paint portraits of actual people and figure
paintings.

VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853-1890)
He was a post-impressionist painter whose works were remarkable for their strong, heavy
brush strokes, intense emotions, and colors that pulsate with energy.

Create a simple Mosaic or Pointillism

Mosaics or Pointillism
1. Prepare plenty of little squares of circles of colored paper, like those leftovers by a hole punch.
You can also tear tiny pieces of art paper.
2. Glue them down on a clean sheet of Oslo paper to create your mosaic or dot pictures.
