SEATWORK #4
1. Read and understand intently the different personality disorders
2. List at least 3 personality disorders that has a similar trait or characteristic/s with you or patterns your own personality 3. Explain thoroughly each personality disorder that you listed 4. Explain each personality disorder that you picked and its particular characteristic between your own characteristic and tell its similarity with your own Schizoid Personality Disorder This type of personality disorder is being characterized by being detached from social relationships and expressing a restricted range of emotional expression. In addition, a person with this type of disorder typically does not seek close relationships and chooses to be alone. I am relating my own personality with this SPD because I know from myself that I am not an expressive person unlike others and there is something that holds me back from expressing my emotions. I consider myself as an independent person since then that is why being alone is not a huge issue anymore and I prefer to be alone with my own thoughts than to share it with other people. Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder is typically a pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfection and control. It is indicated in the book that a person with OCPD was expected to do good and do the right thing to win parental approval and they usually appear anxious or stiff and reluctant to reveal underlying emotions. I am relating myself with this type of personality disorder because personally, I know from myself that I always want to work in a way that I always do my best at all times. I want everything to be in its place. I am also reluctant or I am always holding back my emotions because I don’t want other people to see how vulnerable I am as a person. Avoidant Personality Disorder Avoidant Personality Disorder is a pattern of extreme fear of rejection and criticisms that leads to an inability to engage in meaningful relationships with other people; feelings of inadequacy and extreme sensitivity to criticism. In addition, people with APD may be unwilling to get involved with other people unless they are certain of being liked and they often feel lonely and isolated. I am relating myself with this type of disorder because I know from myself that I do not engage with other people easily unless I feel that they are also interested in getting to know me better. For example, I am too shy to show my true personality to my relatives from my father’s side because I just feel that their personality does not fit with mine. I feel like I do not belong with them that is why when we were having a family gathering, I just sat in one corner and if someone talks to me, I just respond and that’s it. It is also indicated that a person with APD is extremely sensitive to criticism. There are times that I am sensitive to such criticism but at the end of the day I always keep in mind that such criticism is just given in an objective way and not sensitive about it.
