Conceptual Framework of The Study Input Process Output

The document presents a conceptual framework for a study on the impact of COVID-19 on consumer behavior. It outlines the input, process, and output of the study. The input includes demographic data and factors influencing consumer purchasing and decisions during the pandemic. The process involves identifying literature, distributing surveys, and analyzing data. The output is to understand the effect of COVID-19 on consumer behavior. Graphical representations show the independent variable of time shortage due to the pandemic leading to the dependent variable of a crisis for consumers. Control variables are hoarding, improvisation, pent-up demand, and embracing digital technology.

Shown in Figure 1 are the variables involved in the study. The input includes; 1) name
(optional), age, and sex; 2) the factors that consumers consider when purchasing a product in
times of the pandemic; 3) the factors that affect the consumers’ buying decisions during the rise
of COVID-19; and 4) the things that consumers spend on during the COVID-19. The variables
mentioned have a significant relevance and impact in this study.

The second part shows the processes in carrying out this research such as identifying
conceptual foundations as well as related literatures, distributing survey questionnaires and data
analysis.
The output is the expected result of this study which is the impact of the 2019 Novel
Coronavirus or COVID-19 on consumer behavior.

Figure 2. An illustration of the relationship between the variables in the study.

Independent Variable
The impact of the pandemic towards the behavior of the consumers greatly caused the
shortage of time. It is because when the pandemic started the only people that can go out from
their house are the people who have very important appointments like for example: they only go
out for groceries, for work and other important matters and as much as they wanted to be outside
enjoying with their families, they cannot do so because of the infectious virus that can
immediately affect their health and struck their lives. So, if they are already outside their houses
grabbing the opportunity to buy some personal consumption, the supplier of their needs are also
running out of time it is because they need to follow the protocols given by the government
including the time allotted for them to close their stores due to the curfews. Shortage of time
also causes delay of goods delivered because again of the strict protocols.
Dependent Variable

The effect of the shortage of time to the consumers is the “CRISIS”. It is because due to
the delay of goods, the demand is getting higher and because of that, the prices of the goods are
also increasing. And as of now, the workers pays are already not enough to buy the things that
they wanted in fact to they due to the crisis, the only things that they only buy are the things that
they really need for their everyday consumptions.

Control Variable

 Hoarding – it is when there is a shortages of supply that causes the increased

on the price of the goods.
 Improvisation – the consumers mostly did this kind of method in order to saved
and in order to manage the shortages of supply.
 Pent-up demand - According to Sheth, Jagdish(September,2020), During times of crisis
and uncertainty the general tendency is to postpone purchase and consumption of
discretionary products or services. Often, this is associated with large ticket durable
goods such as automobiles, homes, and appliances. It also includes such discretionary
services as concerts, sports, bars, and restaurants. This results in shift of demand from
now into the future. Pent up demand is a familiar consequence when access to market is
denied for a short period of time for services such as parks and recreation, movies, and
entertainment. While economists have studied impact of pent up demand on the GDP
growth, there is very little research in consumer behavior about the nature and scope of
pent up demand.
 Embracing Digital Technology - Since many of us including the consumers are very
found on using gadgets and especially social media, the consumers are already embracing
the fact that this digital technology can be a great help for them when it comes to buying
the necessary things safe and online markets can help them save because of the lesser
demand of price compared to the non-online markets.
