    Lesson 1: Learning History

    1. What is history?
     History is a phenomena that tell us who we are and where we came from.
    2. How the word “history” did come about? Discuss its etymology and evolution.
     The word history comes from the Ancient Greek iotopra (historia), meaning
    “inquiry”, and knowledge from inquiry or “judge”.
    Reflect on Your Past
    1. Has your past influenced you in one way or another? How does your past shape your
    identity and behavior? Discuss your answers?
     Yes, my past has definitely influenced me .Even bad experiences in the past can
    have positive effects on our lives if we learn and grow from those experiences.
    Experiencing new things whether they are good , bad or neutral can make us become
    more confident so it shaped me to become more confident in every scenarios or
    situation in life,

    1. How is your understanding of history different from what is explained in this lesson?
     My understanding of history is about a narrative phenomena in the past while this
    lesson explained history all about learning.
    2. How history is commonly defined according to Gottschalk?
     According to Gottschalk history is all about a phenomena. He commonly defined
    history as a natural phenomena.
    3. What does a historian do? As a student of history, what do you think will be your “duties”?
     Historians collect and evaluate information from many primary sources to answer
    questions about historian’s events. As a student of history my duties is to do my part
    in discovering the roots of my country’s heroes and make history as a way for me to
    appreciate and give importance to my world and country.
    4. What role does historian take in the study of Philippines society. culture and identity?
     History becomes an active factor in the study of Philippine society. It also includes a
    look into the development of Philippine culture through time especially with the
    influence of the colonial period that would eventually shape the present Philippine
    identity.

    Research on what Teodoro Agoncillo, Reynaldo Ileto, and Renato Constantino said about
    history. Do you agree with them? Write at least 100 words.
     Teodoro Agoncillo said about history that “History deals with the past, not with the
    future. We use history to avoid the mistakes of the past, not to recreate the very
    same events.
