    Indegineous Breeds of Cattle in India

    Desi Cows

    1. Gir – Nandhini and Surabhi
    2. Kangeyam – Lakshmi, Swathi, Veera
    3. Lambadi (Hallikar) – Kalyani and Ahir Bhairav

    Gir
    Gir comes under the Milk breed. Also known by the names, Desan, Kathiawari

    Kangeyam
    It comes under the draught breed. The name Kangeyam is a name of the place it
    has originated. Kanganad and Kongu are also the names used in the native areas. It
    can be seen in the districts of Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal, Karur and Dindugul.
    Once we hear the name Kangeyam the first thing that strikes our mind is “Jallikattu”.
