Instructions: All questions are compulsory
Assume missing data suitably, if any
Group A (2x3 = 6 Marks)
What are the applications of Operations Research techniques in different areas of business
1. like marketing, human resource management, production, and finance?
CO2 3
Consider the following linear programming problem. Find the dual problem:
Maximize
Z = 22x1 + 25x2 +19x3
2. Subject to: CO2 3
18x1 + 26x2 + 22x3 ≤ 350
14x1 + 18x2 + 20x3 ≥180
x1, x2, x3 ≥ 0
Group B (4x5 = 20 Marks)
A company sells two different products A & B, making a profit of Rs. 60 and Rs 90 per unit.
They are both produced with the help of a common production process and are sold in two
different markets. The production process has a total capacity of 30,000 man-hours. It takes 3
3 hours to produce a unit of A and 1 hour to produce a unit of B. The market has been surveyed CO2 5
and company officials feel that the maximum no. of units of A that can be sold is 8,000 units
and that of B is 12,000 units. Subject to these limitations, products can be sold in any
combination. Formulate this problem as an LPP.

A factory manufactures two products A and B. To manufacture one unit of A, 1.5

machine hours and 2.5 labour hours are required. To manufacture product B, 2.5
4 machine hours and 1.5 labour hours are required. In a month, 300 machine hours and CO2 5
240 labour hours are available. Profit per unit for A is Rs. 50 and for B is Rs. 40.
Formulate as LPP.
A company produces three products A, B, C.
For manufacturing three raw materials P, Q and R are used.
Profit per unit A - Rs. 5, B - Rs. 3, C - Rs. 4
Raw material
Product P Q R
5 CO2 5
A 0 20 50
B 20 30 0
C 30 20 40
Maximum raw material availability: P - 80 units; Q - 100 units; R - 150 units.
Formulate LPP.
Explain the physical and mathematical model in Operations Research with suitable
6 CO1 5
examples.
Group C (2x12 = 24 Marks)
Solve the following LPP by using simplex method-

Max Z = 40x1 + 35x2 (Profit)

Subject to
7 CO2 12
2x1+3x2 ≤ 60 (Raw material constraint)
4x1 + 3x2 ≤ 96 (Labor-hour constraint)
X1, x2 ≥ 0

Solve the following LPP by graphical method

Max Z = 40X1 + 80X2
Subject to the constraints
8 2X1 +3X2 <= 48 CO2 12
X1 <=15
X2 <= 10
X1, X2 >=0
