ENTRANCE ANTIPHON:

As Jesus died and rose again, so will the father rise

up with him those who have died in Christ. As we
all died in Adam, we shall live again in Christ. As
we all died in Adam, we shall live again in Christ.
(The body is then taken into the church)

OPENING PRAYER:
Almighty God, our father, we firmly believe that
your son died and rose to life. We pray for our
brother Late Capt. Jude Ifejianyi (RTD), who has died in
Christ. Raise him at the last to share the glory of
risen Christ. Through Christ our Lord... Amen

FIRST READING:
A reading from the book of Ecclesiastes (3:1-4, 20)
Everything that happens in this world happens at
the time God chooses. He sets the time for birth
and for death, the time for planting and for
plucking; a time for tearing down and the time for
building. He sets time for sorrow and time for joy,
the time for mourning and the time for dance. The
both go to the same place, the dust. They both
came from it; they will both go back to it.
This is the word of the lord
Thank be to God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM:
Ps.23:1-2,3-4, 5, 6 Rv. 1
Response: I will live in the house of Lord forever
1. The lord is my shepherd I shall not want,
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He
leads me beside the still water, he restores my soul.
He leads me in parts of righteousness for his name
sake. R/
2. Even though I walk through the valley of
shadow of death I fear no evil for thou are with me
thy rock and thy staff they comfort me. R/

SECOND READING:
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the
Thessalonika (1Thess. 4:13-18)
We want you to be quiet certain, brothers about
those who have died, to make sure the you do not
grieve about them, like the other people who have
no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose
again, and that it will be the same for those who
have died in Jesus. God will bring them with him.
We can tell you these from the lords teaching, that
any of us who are left alive until the lords coming
will not have any advantages over those who have
died. At the trumpet of God, the voice of the
archangel will call out the command and the lord
himself will come down from heaven, those who
are still alive will be taking up in the clouds,
together with them to meet the lord in the air. So
we shall stay with the lord forever. With such
thought as these you should comfort one another.

This is the word of the lord

Thanks be to God.

ACCLAMATION:
Happy are those who die in the lord, now they can
rest forever after their work since their good deeds
go with them.

GOSPEL:
A reading from the Holy Gospel According to St.
Mathew 5:1-12.
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill, there he
sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he
began to speak, this is what he thought them. How
Happy are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom

PRAYER FOR THE MOURNERS

Grant, Oh God, that while we lament the departure of this your servant Chinedu
Ezenwamadu we may always remember that we are most certain to follow him. Give us
your grace to prepare for the last hour by a good life, that we may not be surprised by a
sudden, and unprovided death, but be ever watching that when you call, we may enter
into glory through Christ our Lord.

R:

Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE DECEASED May Mary, the Most merciful Virgin Mother of God,
kindest comforter of those who mourn, commend to her son the soul of her servant
Chinedu Ezenwamadu who has departed this life, that through her maternal intercession,
she may quickly reach her longed home in the heavenly fatherland and live forever and
ever. Amen.
