Moraleda Luke L - Assignment 7
1. Introduction
After reading the material, I realized that project preparation is one of the key
aspects to efficiently implement or conclude a project. Without preparation and
other factors such as cost estimation a project may lead to over budget which is
a waste of resources in terms of money, labor, materials, and most importantly
time. The introduction of the project planning gave me an overview about the
activities, decisions, and process to implement a project. Therefore, It is important
to take consideration in engineering the preparation of plans and cost estimates
to efficiently build or perform various projects.
The collection of maps and data is a process in order to define the location of
the site. Moreover, it is also a part of the planning to distinguish the engineering
work that must be done to a given site based on the collected data in this
process. This part is important because it will be the foundation of the study or
engineering work to implement the project.
A project's approval and funding are usually based on an outline plan. This will
demonstrate the project's technical viability. The production calculations and
specification should be detailed enough to create a realistic cost estimate that
includes both annual operating and production costs.
3. Detailed Plan
Once the project's outline plan has been implemented, an analysis of all
existing evidence should be conducted, and if this is inadequate, steps should be
taken to correct the deficiency.
Before any kind of construction activity is started, it's important to have a
topo survey done in the area so an accurate record of the land's existing
conditions exists. The purpose of a topographic survey is to collect survey data
about the natural and man-made feature of the land, as well as its elevations.
In this part of the reading material provided, I learned the important parts
in terms of topographic survey such as Index or location map, boundary map,
contour map, cross and longitudinal sections and land map. All of these are
important to establish an engineering plan or work. Without these, a plan may not
be efficient since these are one of the foundation factors to consider in building
a project.
Soil surveys commonly identify the more important soil characteristics that
determine the limitations and qualities of the soil. This is also one of the most
important factors to consider in the detailed plan because an architect or
engineer use the engineering properties of a soil to determine whether or not it
was suitable for a certain type of construction. Therefore, it includes an important
part of the information that is used to make workable plans for land management.
Project report is part of the detailed plan where it covers the project
proposal, investigation, the production including its proposed method,
engineering features, execution of construction, etc. It contains the general
description of the design including the drawings. In this part I learned the
important parts to make a project report.
4. Planning considerations
Planning considerations illustrated the design criteria and specification,
description of facilities, and schedule of execution. I realized that after working
with the plan, there are factors to think of in terms of application. This are the
specific requirements in order to work on the preparation of plans and cost
estimates. An example in the provided reading material is about a fish pond
project where in the specific requirements needed to implement the project are
illustrated.
The reading material just mentioned that this will be presented in chapter 4 but
no information was provided. However, due to the previous items, we fully
understand the importance of this part as it will determine the needed budget to
fulfill the project.
