“ANTONI GAUDÍ’S WORK OF ART”. Anyone who has ever visited Barcelona has seen the Works of the
city’s. Most famous architect,Antoni Gaudí was born in Reus, Spain in 1852, and studied architecture in
Barcelona between 1873 and 1878.He spent most of his life there and designed many wonderful
buildings like the Casa Battló, the Casa Mila and Park Güell.
The Sagrada Familia is his most famous work and has become a symbol of Barcelona. Gaudí started this
Project in 1883 and spent the rest of his life working on it. He wanted to build a very impressive catedral
with 18 towers over 550 feet high.
When he died in 1926, only a small part was ready. Work continued, but in 1936 a bomb ruined Gaudí’s
study with all his notes and designs. In 1952, a team of architects decided to make Gaudí’s dream come
true. They started work on the Sagrada Familia again. They have already built the façade and most of the
towers. Four of the towers are open to visitors and provide amazing views of the city. However, work on
the catedral hasn´t finished yet and probably won’t for quite some time.

1.- What is a volcano?
A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth.
When pressure builds up, eruptions occur. Gases and rock shoot up through the opening and spill over or
fill the air with lava fragments. Eruptions can cause lateral blasts, lava flows, hot ash flows, mudslides,
avalanches, falling ash and floods. Volcano eruptions have been known to knock down entire forests. An
erupting volcano can trigger tsunamis, flash floods, earthquakes, mudflows and rock falls.
2.- How are volcanoes formed?
Volcanoes are formed when magma from within the Earth's upper mantle works its way to the surface. At
the surface, it erupts to form lava flows and ash deposits. Over time as the volcano continues to erupt, it
will get bigger and bigger.
The Earth's crust is made up of huge slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. These
plates sometimes move. The friction causes earthquakes and volcanic eruptions near the edges of the
plates. The theory that explains this process is called plate tectonics.
