STATISTICAL PACKAGE FOR THE
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Software Available for Statistics
1. SPSS(IBM)
2. R (R Foundation for Statistical Computing)
3. MATLAB (The MathWorks)
4. Microsoft Excel
5. SAS (Statistical Analysis Software)
6. Minitab
SPSS
Advanced statistical analysis, a large library of machine learning algorithms, text analysis, open-source
extensibility, integration with big data and seamless implementation into applications are supported by
the SPSS software framework. The full form of SPSS is Statistical Package for the Social Sciences and
the software is now popular in the field of health science and marketing.
Excel is software for spreadsheets, and SPSS is software for statistical analysis. In Excel, some
statistical analysis can be carried out, but SPSS is more efficient. SPSS has built-in tools for data
manipulation, such as recoding, converting variables, and if you want to do your job in Excel, you have
a lot of work.
ADVANTAGES OF SPSS:
Compared to others, the benefits of using SPSS as a program kit are:
1. SPSS is an in-depth statistical program.
2. As a built-in function, several complex statistical tests are available.
3. Interpretation of outcomes is relatively straightforward.
4. Data tables are viewed easily and rapidly.
5. Can be enlarged.

DISADVANAGES OF SPSS:
1. For students, SPSS may be costly to buy.
2. Usually, added training is required to fully leverage all the features available.
3. Graph characteristics are not as basic as those of Microsoft Excel.

Click the Variable View tab. Type the name for your first variable under the Name column.
Click the Data View tab. Any variable names that you entered in Variable View will now be included
in the columns (one variable name per column).
You can now define values for each case. In this example, students are represented by cases. Enter a
value in the cell corresponding to the required row and column for each student for their class level.

For each variable that you are going to use in your dataset, repeat these steps. Don't forget to save your
progress periodically as you enter info.

1. With all the details, load your excel file. Keep the excel file ready for all data entered using the
relevant tabular forms until you have obtained all the data.
2. In SPSS, import the data. You need to import your raw data from you excel file into the SPSS. The
SPSS will analyze it once you import the data.
3. Offer clear commands to SPSS. You can send the desired commands in the SPSS program
depending on what you want to analyze. Each instrument has instructions for how to use it, and in
order to get the most reliable result, you should feed into all the choices.
4. Retrieve the findings. The software findings are provided easily and reliably, giving researchers a
better understanding of suitable future studies.
5. Analyze the charts and graphs. It can be a little hard to grasp the findings. But you can get help with
the study from professors and peers.
6. Based on your research, postulate conclusions. The SPSS's goal is to help arrive at conclusions
based on studies. The app allows you to draw conclusions and easily forecast the future with
minimal statistical deviations.
