Introduction

This prayer book is a summary of the basic Christian catechism


and prayers on healing and conversion.

Since 1990, the Holy Trinity Divine Healing Ministry has been
sharing the power of Jesus Christ's healing touch on the sick of mind, body,
and spirit, severe, inexplicable, or unknown cases. Up to this day, Jesus heals
the sick & perform miracles on people's lives.

Through this simple prayer guide, the healing ministry wishes to


share secrets of healing that have worked on their lives - “6 Reminders for
Healing”: 1) holy confession, 2) holy eucharist (or mass), 3) holy
communion, 4) holy rosary, 5) prayer vigil, and 6) covenant (or agreement)
with God.

It is their wish that all families, regardless of belief or


denominations, may rediscover the healing power of Jesus Christ
through the sacraments, all for the greater glory of God.

OUR MISSION:
Bring the power of sacraments healing to the sick through
catechism, testimonies, masses for the sick, and parish
outreaches, thus, increasing appreciation of the Christian Faith

1) HOLY CONFESSION
Confession (or penance) – the sacrament by which sins
committed after Baptism are forgiven through the
absolution of the priest. [1]

Who gave to the priest the power to forgive sins?


Answer: Jesus Christ gave to the priest the power to
forgive sins, [1] in these words spoken to the Apostles and to
their successors in the Priesthood: If you forgive people's
sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are
not forgiven. (John 20: 23)

How to Make a Good Confession [2]


Sacramental confession is no formality. It is a decisive
stage in the long process of our moral conversion. It is the
key to peace of mind and improvement. But, in order to
obtain these benefits, we must be clear about some
fundamental truths and apply them to our personal situation.

FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS [2]


1. God loves us immensely and wants our eternal happiness.
2. We can enjoy this eternal happiness only if we use our
freedom to live according to His will.

3. Any refusal to behave according to God’s will is a SIN,
the gravity of which depends on:
 the action that we do or omit;
 our degree of awareness, our intention, and degree
of freedom; and
 the circumstances.

4. As a refusal to respond to God’s love, sin is an act of


ingratitude, pride and rebellion against Him.
5. Whenever we sin, we turn away from God, and we
give ourselves or other creatures the attention and love
that should be directed to Him alone.
6. In so doing, we cause damage to ourselves and others
because we upset the order established by the Creator.
7. In His divine love, God is always willing to forgive us.
He actually never ceases to call us back to Him and to
proper behavior.

8. If we want to enjoy God’s forgiveness, we must


respond to His invitation to:
 STOP sinning;
 ABANDON situations of sin; and
 RETURN to Him with a contrite heart.
9. We must also seek His forgiveness through the ministry
of the Church, according to Jesus’ mind when he gave
the Apostles the power to forgive sins. (John 20: 22)

10. The reception of God’s forgiveness through the Sacrament
of Penance brings about in us a real spiritual resurrection.
We rise again to a new life of grace. Through this
sacrament, we are reconciled with God, with the Church,
with our neighbor and with ourselves.

STEPS TO BE TAKEN BEFORE GOING TO


CONFESSION [2]
The most important thing is not to “go to confession” but
“to make a good confession”:
 To approach this sacrament sincerely sorry for our
sins.
 To confess them in all humility and honesty.
 To be ready to make amends for them; and
 To be determined to avoid committing sin in the
future and live according God’s will.

In order to do all these, an essential step is to make a


thorough examination of conscience. This includes:

a) Becoming aware of the gravity and number of one’s sins,


either in thought, words or deeds, whether they consist in
something wrong that we have committed, or in something
good that we should have done and which we failed to do.
(“sin of omission”)
b) Realizing that, by our sins, we have offended God, have
renewed the cause of Jesus Christ’s suffering and death,
and caused harm to our neighbor and ourselves.

Valuable aids help in making a good examination of
the conscience are:

1. Prayer to the Holy Spirit for enlightenment and


sincerity;
2. Reading of some pertinent Scripture passages which
helps us rediscover the gravity of our sinfulness, the
greatness of God’s love for us and His readiness to
forgive us; and
3. Going over sets questions concerning our duties to
God, our neighbor and ourselves.

PRAYER BEFORE MAKING THE


EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE [2]
Come, Holy Spirit, into my soul and help me
know my sins, feel sorry for them, and confess them
humbly, that I may be able to enjoy the Father’s
forgiveness.

By your light illumine the darkness of my mind,


by your fire warm my cold heart, by your grace fill me
with your love and power.

May I realize the wrong that I did and the good


that I failed to do.

Help me feel truly sorry for all my sins,


strengthen my determination to avoid them in the future,
and to live in your love, your peace and your joy. Amen.

EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE GUIDE [2]
There are several ways to make a good examination
of conscience.

A rather common one consists in reviewing our life


in the light of the Ten Commandments and see how often
and how gravely we have failed to keep them.

Another way consists in reflecting on the basic


Christian virtues (faith, hope, love of God and
neighbor, patience, purity, honesty, etc.) and seeing if we
have practiced them or not.

There are also other ways to make an examination


of conscience, but what essential is to place ourselves in
the presence of Almighty God and ask ourselves, in total
honesty, if He is pleased with us, and if not, why?

Preliminary Questions [2]

 When did I make my last confession? Was it a


“good confession”?
 Did I make any special promise to the Lord
on the occasion? How successful have I been in keeping
that promise?
 Did I commit any grave or mortal sin since
my last confession?

QUESTIONS BASED ON THE TEN
COMMANDMENTS [1]

1. You shall have no false gods before me.


Is God the most important reality in my life? Did I
entertain doubts about my catholic faith?
Did I read books or watch show / movies against my
catholic faith? Am I superstitious? Do I believe in
fortune telling, astrology, palm reading, witchcraft?
Have I always trusted in the Lord, especially in the midst
of adversities and trials? Are there any “minor gods” in
my life; money, pleasure, success, popularity, power?

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in
vain.
Did I use the name of God disrespectfully?
Did I curse? Did I keep the promises I made to God? Did
I speak disrespectfully of Jesus, Mary and the other
Saints?

3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s day.


Did I participate devoutly and punctually in the Sunday
mass? Did I pray regularly everyday, at least in the
morning and evening? Did I read some passage from
Sacred Scripture every day? How interested have I been
in knowing my faith better and helping others (including
my friends, officemates/classmates and relatives) do so?

4. Honor your father and mother.
(For children) Did I fail to show love to my parents
and other relatives? Was I disrespectful or disobedient to
them? Did I help them when I could? Did I disappoint
them? How? Did I respect my teachers, my parish priest
and other persons in authority? Did I respect the rules of
my school? (For parents) Did I raise my children with
selfless love and real concern? Was I too hard or too
lenient with them? Did I give them a bad example in the
way I spoke or acted? Did I fail to lead them with my
good example? Did I see to it that my children get
proper religious instruction and are actively involved in
our Christian community and organizations? Did I
motivate them for a committed life in
the Church and society?

5. You shall not kill.


Did I hurt anybody with my words or actions? Did I
refuse to help people in need when I had the opportunity
and the means to do so? Did I spread negative rumors
about others? Did I give a bad example? Did I do my
best to make up for it? Did I keep grudges? Did I
apologize promptly and sincerely? Was I instrumental in
leading others to sin through my words or actions? Was I
respectful of other people’s opinions and beliefs? Did I
take anybody’s life? Did I cause any physical injury or
moral loss to others? Did I do my best to make up for it?

Am I a member of any violent organization? Did I
approve or consent to, recommend, seek or actively take
part in abortion? Did I contribute to the pollution of the
environment? Did I take care of my physical and mental
health? Did I smoke, drink immoderately, use harmful
drugs, or do anything that harms my health or the health
of others?

6 & 9 You shall not commit impure actions. You


shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
(For all) Did I look at immodest pictures, shows,
film…. Or read books and other publications that arouse
in me sexual fantasies and may lead me to sin against
chastity? Did I entertain immodest thoughts or consent to
impure desires? Did I commit any impure actions by
myself or with others? Was I prudent and reserved in
dealing with people of the opposite sex, whether married
or not? Did I engage in conversations or jokes that could
lead myself and others to commit sins against purity? Did
I engage in premarital sex?

7 & 10 You shall not steal. You shall not covet your
neighbor’s property.
Was I respectful of other people’s property? Did I
damage public property? Did I steal anything? Did I return
what I stole or offer adequate compensation? Did I cheat
in school or in business? Was I honest in my work,
performing my duty in the best possible way?

Was I fair in paying my employees, my taxes and other
dues? Was I envious of other people’s material means or
success? Did I waste time and opportunities? Was I
greedy? Did I use natural resources selfishly?

8. You shall not bear false witness against your


neighbor.
Did I tell lies to defend my pride or to cause damage to
others? Did I give false witness in court? Did I reveal
secrets which had been confided to me? Did I reveal secret
faults of others? Did I accuse someone falsely? Did I judge
others rashly? Was I a biased person? Was I able to
balance truth and charity?

IMMEDIATELY BEFORE CONFESSION [2]

a) Humbly and sincerely ask the Lord’s forgiveness and


the grace you need to avoid sin in the future.
b) Try to identify the internal root causes of your sins;
wrong inclinations, personal weaknesses, bad habits… and
see what you can do to eliminate at least one of these “root
causes.” This means; resolve to work seriously at
becoming a better person by either getting rid of one
serious moral defect, or by strengthening one good moral
quality (virtue).
c) Ask the Lord for the grace to make a sincere and
thorough confession.

DURING CONFESSION [2]

1. Make the sign of the cross and say:


Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.
My last good confession was (ex. 1 year) ago.
Since then, I have committed the following sins ...

Confess your sins clearly and sincerely, starting with the


most difficult or embarrassing ones. Should you feel
nervous or uncertain about some sins, ask the priest to
help you.

Remember that it is necessary to specify the number of


mortal sins, together with the circumstances that add to
their gravity. (Say big sins first, number of times
committed, reason(s) why they were done; example:
abortion, once, selfishness. Small sins follows, example,
answering back disrespectfully at parents. There is no
need to say, for small sins, the number of times and why
they were committed.)

When you have finished confessing all the sins that you
remember, say:
For these sins and all the sins of my past life, especially
the sins against …. (mention the most important virtues
like charity, honesty, purity, etc.), I ask absolution and
penance from you, Father.

2. The confessor will give you some pertinent
advice. He will also give you an appropriate
penance to be performed after the sacrament of
confession. At his invitation, recite an Act of
Contrition (page 33).

3. After having recited the Act of Contrition, bow


your head and receive the priest’s absolution with
humility and gratitude. Follow his words attentively
and join him in saying the closing “Amen!”

AFTER CONFESSION [2]

Kneel down in front of the altar or of an image of


Our Lord, and thank him for the gift of this
confession. Renew your resolutions and ask His help
to overcome future temptations. With St. Dominic
Savio, repeat the prayer/commitment synthesized in
the motto: Death, rather than sin.

If the penance given by the confessor consists in


some prayers to be recited, say them quietly and
devoutly.
Then smile at Jesus with gratitude. Rise joyful
and confident for the Lord has been merciful to you.
Live for Him every minute of your life, and let
everybody see how wonderful it is to serve the Lord.

The Meaning of “Catholic” [3]

The early church, when they accepted the primacy of


Peter, accepted the importance of the Church in Rome.
Saint Paul wrote in Romans 1: 8 “First of all, I gave thanks
to my God, to Jesus Christ for all of you because your faith
is “heralded throughout the world.” The original Greek
word used here for “proclaimed throughout”' is “kata” with
the adjective “holos” which means “whole”. Thus, the word
“catholic” comes from this original Greek text of the bible
which means the “universal church”.
The word “catholic” is more ancient than the word
“bible”. In order to explain the nature, mission, and vision
of the Church in 110 AD, an early bishop of the Church,
Ignatius of Antioch, uses the word “katolikos” which means
in Greek “universal”. “Where the bishop is present, where
the congregation gathers, Christ is there.”

Why did Jesus Christ found the Church? [4]


Answer: Jesus Christ founded the Church to bring all
men to eternal salvation.

How do we know which is the one true Church


established by Christ? [4]
Answer: We know which is the one true Church
established by Christ, by the marks provided by Him
to recognize His Church.

THE CHIEF MARKS OF THE CHURCH [4]
“One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic”

1. One – The Catholic Church's members, according to the


will of Christ, profess the same faith, have the same
sacrifice and celebrate the same sacraments, and are united
under one and the same visible head, the Pope.
2. Holy – The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ
who is all-holy; teaches the holy doctrines of her Founder;
and provides the means of leading a holy life, thus giving
holy members to every age.
3. Catholic (or Universal) – The Catholic Church, destined
to last for all time, never fails to fulfill the divine
commandment to teach all nations all the truths revealed
by God (essentially missionary).
4. Apostolic – The Catholic Church was founded by
Christ on the Apostles and, in accordance with his
divine will, has always been and will always be
governed by their lawful successors.

Note: The invisible head of the Church is Jesus Christ. Christ


appointed Saint Peter visible head of the Church.

Can Persons Who are Not Members of the Catholic


Church be saved? [4]
Answer: Persons who are not members of the Catholic
Church can be saved if, through no fault of their own, they
do not know that the Catholic Church is the true Church,
but they love God and try to do his will (“connected with
Church by desire”).

2) HOLY MASS
Holy Mass - the sacrifice of the New Law in which Christ,
through the ministry of the priest, offers himself to God in an
unbloody manner under the appearance of bread and wine
(root and center of Christian life). [4]

What are the purposes for which the Mass is offered? [4]
Answer:
1) to adore God as our Creator and Lord;
2) to thank God for the gifts we have received from him;
3) to satisfy God's justice for the sins committed against
him;
4) to ask God for graces and blessings for the faithful on
earth and the souls in purgatory.

Why is the Mass the same as the sacrifice of the cross? [4]
Answer: In the mass, the victim (offering himself to God) is
the same, and the principal priest is the same, Jesus Christ.

The Tremendous Value of the Holy Mass [5]


 At the hour of death, the Masses you have heard will
be your greatest consolation.
 Every mass will go with you to judgment and plead
for your pardon.
 At every mass, you can diminish the temporal
punishment due to your sins, more or less, according
to your fervor.
 Assisting devoutly at Mass, you render the Sacred
Humanity of our Lord the greatest homage.
 He supplies for many of your negligence and
omissions.

 He forgives you all the venial sins which you have never
confessed.
 The power of Satan over you is diminished.
 You afford the souls in purgatory the greatest possible
relief.
 One mass heard during your life will be of more benefit to
you than many heard for you after your death.
 You are preserved from many dangers and misfortunes
which would otherwise have befallen you.
 You shorten your purgatory by every Mass.
 Every mass wins for you a higher degree of glory in
heaven.
 You receive the priest blessing which our Lord ratifies in
heaven.
 You kneel amidst multitudes of holy angels, who are
present at the adorable sacrifice with reverential awe.
 You are blessed in your temporal goods in affairs.
 Every time we assist at Mass we should, beside our other
intentions, offer it in honor of the saint of the day.
 When we hear Mass and offer the Holy Sacrifice in honor
of any particular saint or angel, thanking God for favors
he bestowed on him, we afford him a great degree of
honor, joy, and happiness, and draw his special love and
protection on us.

PRAYER ON ENTERING THE CHURCH [6]
We adore you, our Most Holy Lord, Jesus Christ, here and
in all the churches which are in the world, and we bless you
because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
O sacred banquet in which Christ is received, the memory
of his passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace, and a
pledge of future glory is given to us. (During Easter Season,
add: Alleluia)

Leader (L): You have given them bread from heaven. (Alleluia)
All (A): The bread which is full of all goodness. (Alleluia)

Let us pray:
O God, who, in this wonderful sacrament, left us a
memorial of your passion, grant we implore you, that we may
so venerate the sacred mysteries of your body and blood as
always to be conscious of the fruit of your redemption, you
who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER ON LEAVING THE CHURCH [6]

Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception of


the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.
We adore You, our most holy Lord, Jesus Christ, here
and in all the churches which are in the world, and we bless
you because by your holy cross you have redeemed the
world.

L: Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary,


A: Bless us and keep us.

How should we attend Mass? [4]
Answer: With reverence (clean, proper dressing,
behavior),attention (focus on God), and devotion (give heart
to God).

Collared shirts; jeans/slack pants; polo shirts/long sleeves polo;
long sleeves/collared blouses; corporate attire/office or school
uniforms; dresses/long gowns

skirts/skimpy shorts; sleeveless/ plunging necklines

3) HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion – the receiving of Jesus Christ in the
sacrament of the Holy Eucharist [1] (body, blood, soul and
divinity of Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and
wine). [4]

When did Christ command us to receive Communion?


Answer: Christ commanded us to receive Holy
Communion when He said: “Unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in
you” (John 6: 54). It is the food of our souls. [1]

How did Christ institute the Holy Eucharist? [4]


Answer: Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist in this way:
While they were at supper, he “took some bread, and when he
said the blessing, he broke it and gave it to the disciples. 'Take
it and eat, he said, 'this is my body.' Then he took a cup, and
when he had returned thanks, he gave it to them. “Drink all
of you from this,' he said, 'for this is my blood'” (Matthew 26:
26-28).
Christ then gave his priests the power to change bread and
wine into his body and blood when he made the Apostles
priests at the Last Supper by saying to them: “Do this in
memory of me”.

What is necessary to receive Holy Communion


worthily? [4]
Answer: To receive Holy Communion worthily, it is
necessary (1) to be free from mortal sins, and (2) have the
right intention, (3) obey the laws of the Church on fasting
before Holy Communion.

What does the Eucharistic fast require? [4]
Answer: Eucharistic fast requires abstaining from eating and
drinking, except water and medicine, for one hour before
the actual communion time. (Note: does not apply to the
sick, elderly, and caretakers)

BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION [4]


1. Think of our Divine Redeemer whom we are about
to receive.
2. Make Acts of Faith (p. 21), Hope, Love, and
Contrition (p. 33).
ACT OF FAITH [7]
O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three
divine persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I believe that your
divine Son became man and died for our sins, and that he shall come
to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths
which the holy Catholic Churchteaches, because you have revealed
them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

ACT OF HOPE [7]


O my God, relying on your almighty power and infinite
mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins, the help
of your grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus
Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

ACT OF LOVE [7]


O my God, I love you above all things, with my whole heart
and soul, because you are all-good and worthy of all love. I love my
neighbor as myself for the love of you. I forgive all who have
injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured.

AFTER RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION [4]
1. Adore our Lord.
2. Thank our Lord.
3. Renew our promise of love and obedience to him.
4. Ask him for blessings for ourselves and others.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION:

4) HOLY ROSARY [8]
The Rosary (Latin rosarium ~ rose garden or garland of
roses) is made up of two things:
 mental prayer, and vocal prayer.

a) mental prayer - meditation of the chief mysteries of the


life, death and glory of Jesus Christ and of His Blessed
Mother.

b) vocal prayer - saying twenty (20) decades of the Hail


Mary, each decade headed by an Our Father, while at the
same time meditating on and contemplating the twenty
principal virtues which Jesus and Mary practiced in the 20
mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

The Holy Rosary is composed, principally and in


substance, of the Prayer of Christ and the Angelic
Salutation (Our Father and the Hail Mary). It was the first
prayer and the first devotion of the faithful and has been in
use all through the centuries, from the time of the apostles
and disciples down to the present.

In the year 1214, the Holy Mother Church received


the Rosary in its present form and according to the method
we use today. It was given to the Church by Saint Dominic
who had received it from the Blessed Virgin as a powerful
means of converting the Albigensians and other sinners.

On the cross of an ordinary rosary and on the next 3 beads,


say while kissing the cross and passing on the next bead:
I. O Jesus, Divine Redeemer, have mercy on us and on
the entire world. Amen.
II. Holy God, Omnipotent God, Immortal God, have
mercy upon us and upon the entire world. Amen.
III. Forgive! Mercy, my Jesus. During dangers cover us
with your most precious blood. Amen.
IV. Eternal Father, have mercy for the sake of the Blood
of Jesus Christ, your only Son; have mercy on us,
we beg of you. Amen. Amen. Amen.
On the big bead:
Leader (L): Eternal Father, I offer You the Wounds of
Our Lord Jesus Christ.
All (A): To heal the wounds of our souls.

Going through the ten small beads:


L: My Jesus pardon and Mercy.
A: Through the merits of Your wounds.

At the end of the Rosary, say 3 times:

O Blood and Water which gushed forth from Heart of
Jesus as a Fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
