Week 1 Reflection

This first week, my mentor and I focused on what tasks I could step into and begin

working on within the school. I mentioned something that I have been wanting to see the school

implement over my last 5 years of working with Mayer High School.

Identifying a Concern

A consistent concern for all staff has been the lack of a pass system within the high

school which has led to an excessive number of students in the hallway during instruction. I

identified this need through conversation and observation with my fellow teachers but had never

taken into consideration a leadership role I could take to help this situation. My mentor and I

agreed that this would be a great first leadership opportunity for me to take on. During the first

week, my mentor and I discussed the concerns with current school operation and how a school

agenda for each student could fix this problem. We spent most of our time discussing the design

and implementation of these agendas.

ELCC Standard

Identifying a need for school management improvement and taking action to fix any

concerns is a demonstration of ELCC Standard 3. “Standard 3 confirms that a building-level

education leader must have knowledge of best practices regarding management of a school

organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.”

[CITATION Nat11 \p 13 \l 1033 ] Proper implementation of these agendas could significantly

improve school management, keep students in their classrooms, and improve student

achievement.

Leadership Focus for Next Week

Next week, I will be researching companies within the area that can create these agendas

and extend the purchase to the lowest bidder to ensure efficient use of school research. This

leadership opportunity will emphasis the importance of a school administrator making purchases

and using resources purposefully.
