Health Information Systems
Rubrics for Final Project

Objectives:
At the end of this activity, the student will be able to:
• Apply the concepts learned from Lessons 9 – 14
• Present a fictional hospital with interactive and functioning simulations of a hospital
information system and assigned subsystems

Instructions:
1. This is a class final project. Each class will create 1 fictional hospital with an interactive
and functional hospital information system with at least the following subsystems:
• Help Desk
• Admission Information System
• Laboratory Information System
• Materials Management Information System

2. Group leaders and class officers are tasked to take charge in the overall planning of the
class project. They may choose to utilize the existing HIS Laboratory groupings or create
new groups, depending on how they believe is the best way to go about the project.

3. Students need not hire third party programmers or make new applications. They are
encouraged to use free and existing applications such as PowerPoint (with hyperlinks),
Canva, free website builders, and others.

4. Preceptors of each section will act as patients and health care workers who will “use”
(when applicable) the created hospital information system.

5. Students will be graded based on the rubrics provided. Emphasis is given on the ability
to apply their understanding of the lessons taken up. Being a class output, a (partial) class
grade will be given. Peer evaluations will form part of the (final) individual grade.

6. Outputs must contain the following minimum features/functions/information of the hospital

information system:
a. General Hospital Information System
• Hospital logo, name, mission and vision statements
• Hospital location, contact details, organization chart, map
b. Help Desk
• List of Services being offered with price/cost
• List of room types/ward beds with cost
• List of physicians according to department with clinic schedules and
contact details
• Appointment scheduling through created simulation
• Patient “reviews” about the hospital
c. Admission Information System
• Input for Initial Patient Registration (with essential information)
• Input for Patient Admission (with essential information)
• Patient Census
• Bed Utilization
• Sample Interface for Patient Transfer
• Sample Interface for Patient Discharge
• Sample Interface for Patient Billing/Statement of Account
d. Laboratory Information System
• Input for Patient Registration (with essential information)
• List of services/tests offered with price/cost
• At least 10 laboratory reportings/results (10 different tests) with all
essential information reflected
• Sample interface of at least 5 patients undergoing lab tests (with status:
ordered/requested, specimen collected, undergoing processing, with
result, released)
• List of instructions for patients who will undergo testing (example fasting
requirements, dietary instructions, etc.)
e. Materials Management Information System (with Pharmacy Information System)
• Inventory of medicines and other supplies (how many utilized, how many
in stock)
• Tracing System of medicines and supplies (how many were released, to
whom, date, time)
• Sample Requisition Form for materials ordered for patients
• At least 5 sample drug literatures of different medications
• Complete Dangerous Drug Preparations List as of October 2021 (see
PDEA website)
• At least 5 sample billing statements for purchases made by patients

7. The class must also create a calling card for their hospitals. The front portion should
contain the details of their hospital while the back portion contains link to output (if
applicable).

8. The class president must submit the following by December 10, 2021 5 PM:
a) Output file/link – Assignment Tab
i. File Name: < MT1-(Block)-FINAL PROJECT>
ii. Ex. MT1-J –FINAL PROJECT
b) Calling Card – Assignment Tab
c) Peer Assessment – Filled up by each group leader and sent to the assigned
Preceptor
