23 But he commanded them to wish peace to the

house where they they entered, and wherever
they were welcomed, to eat and drink what was
served to them:

24 "For the laborer deserves to receive his

wages."

T. XXIU, 6. 25 And he commanded them to proclaim that the Luke X, 9.

kingdom of God was near.

T. XXIV, 7-8 26 He added: "In every city where you are not Luke X, 10-11
welcomed, say: Yet know that the kingdom of

T. XXVI, 1-5. 1 One of the disciples addressed Christ and said Luke XI, 1
to him, "Teach us to pray, as John taught his
disciples.

2 Since he thought that another God should be

prayed to in a different way,

3 Christ said to them, "When you pray, say: Luke XI, 2-4.

4 Father, may your holy spirit be upon us and

purify us;

5 Let your kingdom come;

6 Give us daily your supernatural bread;

7 forgive us our sins

8 as we forgive our debtors,

9 and lead us not into temptation."

given by the Father to whoever asks for it."
T. XXVI, 11. 15 He expelled a deaf demon. Some said that he Luke XI, 14-20

35 You did not enter, and those who wanted to

enter you have prevented them!"

the Creator, who was so cruel as to curse those
who sinned against him.

T. XXVIII, 1-2. 37 "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which Mark VIII, 15
is hypocrisy," he said, and he added:

T. XXIX, 9-11. 58 Peter asked him if this parable was for his Luke XII, 41-4
Ep. 36. disciples or was intended for the disciples or for
everyone,

59 Christ answered, "Who then is the faithful and

wise steward whom the master will set over his
people to give them their ration of grain at the
right time?

60 Happy is that servant if his master, when he

arrives, finds him so occupied.

61 But if the servant, taking advantage of his

master's absence, begins to beat his men and
women servants, to get drunk

62 then the master will come when he was not

expecting him, and will part with him, and will not
give him his share except with reluctance.

63 For the experienced servant who has done

nothing will receive many blows; but the
inexperienced one, if he has earned blows, will
receive few.

64 And of him to whom much is given, much will

be claimed."

T. XXIX, 12-14. 65 Then Christ declared: "I have come to bring Luke XII, 49-53
fire on the earth...
Ad. II, 5. 66 Do you think I have come to bring peace? No,
I tell you I tell you, but division...

67 The father will set himself against the son, the

mother against the daughter against the mother,
the daughter-in-law against the mother-in-law
and the mother-in-law against the

T. XXIX, 15-16. 68 "Hypocrites, you know how to interpret the

appearance of heaven and earth
but not your time.

69 Why do you not recognize what is right?

70 Why do you use the judge to send your

opponent to prison and not let him out until you
are paid every penny?"

71 One Sabbath day, Christ was teaching in a Luke XIII, 10-14

synagogue. Now there was a woman there who
had been possessed for eighteen years of a spirit
which made her infirm, and she was all bent over
and could not straighten herself at all.

72 Christ saw her and said to her, "Woman, you

are free from your infirmity." Then he laid his
hands on her.

73 Immediately she stood up straight. And she

glorified God.

74 The ruler of the synagogue was indignant that

Christ had healed on the healing on the Sabbath,

75 spoke to the crowd, saying: "There are six

days in which you must work; go, then, and be
healed on those days go and be healed on those
days, and not on the Sabbath."

T. XXX, 1. 76 But Christ replied: "Who among you on the Luke XIII, 15-16
Sabbath does not untie his ox or his ass and lead
it to drink?

Ep. 39. 77 And that daughter of Abraham, whom Satan

had paralyzed

78 should not have been unbound on the

Sabbath?"

T. XXX, 2. 1 Christ said: "The kingdom of God is like a Luke XIII, 18-19

field.

? [, elle] 2 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it

grows, it becomes a tree with large branches that
provide shelter for the birds of the air.

T. XXX, 3. 3. It is like leaven that a woman took and put in Luke XIII, 20-21

6 Then you will say to him, "We ate and drank in

your presence, and you taught us in the you
have taught us in the marketplace.
Ep. 40 7 But he will add: Depart from me, all you
workers of iniquity.

8 For then, when you have seen the righteous in

the kingdom of God while you yourselves are left
outside, there will be weeping and gnashing of
teeth."

T. XXXI, 1. 9 He said to a man who had invited him to his Luke XIV, 12-14
table, "When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not
invite your friends, your brothers, your relatives,
or your rich neighbors, lest they also invite you
and your courtesy be returned to you,

10 For that will be your reward.

11 Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame,

the blind. Then you will be glad that they are not
able to are not able to give it back to you, for it
will be counted to you counted to you in the
resurrection of the just.",

T. XXXI, 2-B. 12 Then he told this parable: "A man gave a Luke XIV, 16-24
great supper to which he had invited many
people.

13 At the appointed hour he sent his servant to

tell the guests: Come now, everything is ready.

14 But they all began to make excuses. One

said, "I have bought some land, and I must go
and see it. One said, I have bought a piece of
land, and I must go and see it; please consider
me excused. Another says: I bought oxen and I
go to try them; I beg you, hold me for excused.
15 Another said, I have taken a wife; therefore I
cannot come.

16 "When the servant had reported all these

excuses, the master of the house was angry, and
told him to go by the ways and by the suburbs,
and to bring the people to him.

17 "Likewise, I tell you, none of these men will

taste of my dinner."

T. XXXII, 1-2, 18 He said, "Which of you, if he has a hundred Luke XV, 4-10.

20 And when he returned home, tired, he said to

her I cherish you more than the ninety-nine.

21 "Or what woman, if she has ten drachmas and

loses one of them and loses one, does not light
the lamp and sweep the house and search
carefully until she has found it?

22 And when she has found it, she calls her

friends and neighbors, and says to them,
"Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which
I lost.

23 "So I tell you, there will be joy in the sight of

God for one sinner one sinner who repents.

T. XXXIII, 1. 24 "But no one can serve two masters at once, Luke XVI, 13.

T. XXXIII, 2-6. 27 The Pharisees laughed when they heard all Luke XVI, 14.

T. XXXIII, 9. 32 "Heaven and earth will pass away before a Luke XVI, 17

T. XXXIV, 10. 33 And he told this parable: "There was a rich Luke XVI, 19
Ad. II, 10. man, who dressed himself in purple and linen,
Ep. 44-46 and feasted every day in splendor.
34 "A beggar named Lazarus was lying before
his door, covered with sores and desiring to catch
what fell from the rich man's table;

35 but the dogs came and licked his sores.

36 It happened that the beggar died, and was

carried to Abraham's bosom.

37 The rich man also died, and was laid in the

tomb. In Hades, with his eyes in torment, he saw
Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

38 Then he cried out: Father Abraham, have

mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of
his finger in water to cool my tongue; for I am
sulphurous in this flame.

39 But Abraham said, "My friend, remember that

you gave yourself good during your life, while
Lazarus had only evil.

40 Now he is consoled while you support.

41 And then. between you and us there is a great

abyss, so that those of the interior cannot pass to
you, nor those of the exterior cross to here.

42 "Then he said: Please send him to my father's

house, where I have five brothers, so that I may
warn them not to come to this place of torment.

43 "And he said, 'They have Moses and the

prophets there. Let them listen to them.

44 But he said, 'No, Father. But if one were to go

to them from the dead, they would repent.
45 Then Abraham said to him: If they did not
listen to Moses. nor to the prophets,

46 even if one were to come back from the dead,

they would not listen to him.

T. XX`~V, 4~ 1 In Samaria, he healed ten lepers, ordering Luke XVII, 12-19

them only to go and show themselves to the
priests.

Ep. 49. 2 Only one, a Samaritan, returned to thank him.

3 He said to him, "Your faith has saved you." And

he added: "There were many lepers in the days
of the prophet Elisha, but not one of them was
healed, except Naaman the Syrian."

T. XXXV, 12. 4 Some Pharisees asked Christ when the Luke XVII, 20-21
kingdom of God would come.

5 He said, "The kingdom of God will not come

with all eyes people will not say, 'It is here, it is

days of Noah and of Lot, terrible and atrocious
days.

11 Remember Lot's wife, who did not transgress

the Creator's the Creator's command with
impunity."

T. XXXVI, 1 12 Then he told them a parable about what they Luke XVIII, 1-8.
should always pray without growing weary:

13 "There was a judge in a city who did not honor

God and mocked men.

14 There was a widow in the same city, who

came to him saying, "Give me justice against my
adversary!

15 For a long time he refused to do so. Then he

said to himself, "I may not fear God I do not fear
God, and I do not care for men, how this woman
bothers me,

16 I will do her justice, so that she will no longer

come and break my head break my head.
17 "Listen, then, to what this unrighteous judge
says to himself. And God would not do his
chosen ones if they cry out to him day and night!

18 I tell you, he will do them justice quickly."

T. XXXVI, 2. 19 He told them that in the Temple two men were Luke XVIII, 9-14
praying
a Pharisee and a publican.

20 The Pharisee, who was upright, praying to

God himself, I thank you that I am not like the
rest of the men, greedy, unjust, adulterers, nor
even like this publican who is there.

21 I fast twice a week and give tithes of all my

income.

22 The tax collector, standing back, did not even

dare to lift up his eyes his eyes to heaven,

23 But he beat his breast, saying: God, have

mercy on this sinner.

24 And Christ said, "I tell you, this one went away
acquitted and the other reprobate."

T. XXXVI, 3-4. 25 A man came to Christ and asked him, "Good Luke XVIII, 18-19

he had observed all the observed all the

come and follow me."

T. XXXVI, 9. 31 As they approached Jericho, a blind man, Luke XVIII, 35-43.

Ad. II, 14. hearing him pass by, asked what was happening.
Ep. 51.

32 As it was made known to him that it was

Christ who was passing by, he cried out: "Jesus,
son of David, have mercy on me."

33 Those who walked before Christ continued

the blind man, wanting to silence him.

34 But Christ did not rebuke him.

35 He healed the man of his blindness: "Your

faith," he said to him, "has saved you,

36 so that he would no longer think that he was

the son of David.

37 And all the people gave thanks to God.

T. XXXVII, 1-2. 38 A tax collector, a foreigner called Zacchaeus, Luke XIX, 1-10
had gone up had climbed up a tree to get a
better look at Christ passing by.

39 Christ looked up and told him to come down,

because he wanted to eat at his house.
40 Zacchaeus hurried down and received him
with joy.

41 And he said, "Lord, I will give half of my goods

to the poor to the poor, and if I have wronged
anyone by lying I will compensate him fourfold.

42 'Because of this, the Lord said to him: "Today

this house has received salvation.

43 For what was lost must be saved."

T. XXXVII, 4. 44 Then Christ said this parable: "A man of high Luke XIX, 12-26.
birth went to a far country to receive to a far
country to receive kingship there.

45 Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten

mines and said to them: Make them worthwhile
until I return.

46 When he returned, he called for the servants

to whom he had given to whom he had given the
money.

47 The first stood up and said to him, `Lord, your

mine has brought in ten.

48 This is a good servant: since you have been

faithful, receive the government of ten cities.

49 A second came and said to him, 'Lord, your

mine has produced five.

50 Again he said to this one, "It is well. Be ruler

of five cities.

51 Another came and said, Lord, here is your

mine, which I have kept laid up in a cloth.

52 For I was afraid of you, who are a hard man,

who take what you have not deposited, and who
reap where you have not sown.

53 He said to him, "I judge you by your own

words, you evil servant. Why then did you not
make my money a thing?

54 And he said to those who stood by, "Take

away from him the mine that he has, and give it
to the man who has ten mines. give it to him who
has ten mines...

55 For he who has full hands will be given again,

but he who has not, even that which he thinks he
has will be taken away."

Ep. 54. 1 When Christ came to Jerusalem, the scribes Luke XX, 19
and the priests wanted to lay hands on him
wanted to lay hands on him,

2 but they did not dare, fearing the reaction of the

people.

3 Some Pharisees asked him: "By what authority Luke XX, 1-8

T. XXXVIII,1-2. 4 He answered them with a question: "Was Mark XII, 28-33

John's baptism from Heaven or from men?

5 They said to themselves, "If we answer that

John's baptism was of a human nature, they will
stone us immediately.
6 So they answered that they did not know.

7 Then Christ asked them, "Why did you not

believe in him?

8 Neither will I tell you by what virtue I do all this."

T. XXXVIII, 3. 9 They asked him again: "Is it permitted to us or Luke XX, 21-25
not to pay taxes to Caesar?

10 He answered, "Render to Caesar what is

Caesar's and to God what is God's. to God what
is God's."

T. XXXVIII, 4-9. 11 The Sadducees, who denied the resurrection, Luke XX, 27-39

without children, his brother must marry his
widow,

12 And they brought to him the case of a woman

who had married seven brothers who died one
after the other,

13 asking who would be the husband of this

woman after the resurrection.

14 Christ answered, "The children of this world

marry, but those whom the God of the other age
has judged worthy to share in the resurrection of
the dead do not marry.

15 For they must not die. They are like angels to

God angels, having become sons of the
resurrection."

16 Then the scribes said, "Teacher, you have

spoken well."

T. XXXVIII, 10. 17 But he in turn asked them: "What do you Luke XX, 41-44

18 They said to him, "From David." - "But David

himself calls him Lord: how then can he be his
