Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use
sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to create
oxygen and energy in the form of sugar.
Describe Photosynthesis
 The process of changing light energy to
chemical energy
 Energy stored as sugar
 Occurs in plants and some algae
 Plants need light energy, CO², and H²O
 Takes place in the chloroplasts, using
chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants

2. Draw and describe on example of the food

chain !

Food Chain, in ecology, the sequence of transfers

of matter and energy in the form of food
organism to organism. Food chains intertwine
locally into a food web because most organism
consume more than one type of animal or plant.
Plants which convert solar energy to food by
photosynthesis, are the primary food source. In a
predator chain, a plant-eating animal is eaten by a
flesh-eating animal. In a parasite chain, a smaller
organism consumes part of a larger host and my
itself be parasitized by even smaller organisms. In
a saprophytic chain, microorganisms live on
organic matter.

Describe food chain

 Shows the energy flow from organism in an
ecosystem
 Start with the primary energy source, usually
the sun
 Has producers, consumers and decomposers

Leaf
A leaf is the green, flat lateral outgrowth in plants.
They come in different shapes, sizes, and colors,
and are generally dorso-ventrally flattened and
thin. They are the main organ responsible for
photosynthesis as they contain chloropyhll.

Lamina
The lamina of the leaf is flat and thin structure of
the leaf that contains the chloroplast and the
stomata. It is made up the mesophyll tissue
surrounded by an upper and lower epidermis.
Apart from the chloroplast and stomata, it asli
contains the veins which are part of the vascular
tissue network of plants responsible for the
transport of water, nutrients and food.

 Apex: The tip of the leaf is known as the apex

 Midvein or Primary Vein: The main vascular
bundle passing usually through the centre of—
the leaf, covering the entire leaf blade. These
veins along with the midvein are responsible for
the transport of nutrients, water and food to and
from the leaves to the plants.
 Leaf Margin: The boundary area following the
edge of the leaf is called the leaf margin.

Types of roots and root system

The primary root, or radicle, is the first organ to
appear when a seed germinates. It grows
downward into the soil, achoring the seedling. In
gymnosperms and dicotyledons (angiosperms
with two seed leaves), the radicle becomes a
taproot . It grows downward, and secondary roots
grow laterally from it to form a taproot system. In
some plants, the taproot also serves as food
storage.
