BEES AND ANTS

Once in the past in the times of Solomon, live a considerable measure of honey bees. One of
them is Eki. Eki is the child of a honey bee who has been widowed mother. Around then her
mom passed on nibbled by a scorpion. Presently he lives alone. Along these lines he chose to
live meander. Until he touched base at the extensive desert. Amidst the desert Eki feel parched
and hungry. “I need to discover sustenance and water, however I needed to figure out where?”
Thought the Eki.

When they are totally fulfilled, they soon discover a spot to remain. After two days they
discovered a spot they believe is correct. in a wide knoll. They won’t need sustenance on the
grounds that at the edge of the knoll there are numerous natural product trees and a wellspring
were spotless. Oki and Eki live in concordance. Progressively they are progressively close
kinship. They likewise live in a protected, quiet and upbeat.

THE RABBIT AND THE BEAR

Once upon a time, there lived as neighbors, a bear and a rabbit. The rabbit was a good
shot. In contrary, the bear was always clumsy and could not use the arrow to good advantage.

One day, the bear called over the rabbit and asked the rabbit to take his bow and arrows
and came with bear to the other side of the hill. The rabbit was preventing to arouse the bear’s
anger so he could not refuse it. He consented and went with the bear and shot enough buffalo to
satisfy the hungry family. Indeed he shot and killed so many that there was lots of meat left after
the bear and his family had loaded themselves and packed all they could carry home.

The bear was very gluttonous and did not want the rabbit to get any of the meat. The
rabbit could not even taste the blood from the butchering as the bear would throw earth on the
blood and dry it up. The poor rabbit would have to go home hungry after his hard day’s work.

The bear was the father of five children. The youngest child was very kind to the rabbit.
He was very hearty eater. The mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the
youngest child did not eat it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with
the meat. He kicked toward the rabbit’s house and when he got close to the door he would give
the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit’s house. In this way, the poor
rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa bear.

THE MOUSE DEER AND CROCODILE

Once upon time there were a smart mouse deer. He lived near a river. The mouse deer
used to go to the river to drink.

One day, the mouse deer was thirsty. He wanted to drink in the river but he knew that
crocodiles were staying and waiting underwater to eat him. He thought hard and got bright idea.
He said out loudly. “I will put in my leg and find out whether the water is warm or not” Of
course the mouse deer did not do what he said. He did not put his leg but the mouse deer took a
wood stick and put one end into the water. Blurrr…! Surely a crocodile grabbed the wood stick
and pulled it underwater. Seeing that, the mouse deer laughed and said “Stupid crocodile! Can’t
you see the difference between a wood stick and a leg?” Then the mouse deer ran to another side
of the river and drink some water.

On the following day, the mouse deer was hungry. He wanted to eat some grass on the
side of the river so he had to to cross the dangerous river which was full of crocodiles. Again he
thought hard and found another smart idea and said loudly “Crocodiles come up!” then some
crocodiles rose from the water. They looked happy and saw their sharp teeth and said “Hello,
Mouse Deer. Do you come to be my lunch? We are hungry” The mouse deer just smiled and
replied. “Sorry, Crocodiles, not today, I come to you to bring an invitation from the king. You
are invited to the party. The king ordered me to count all crocodiles in this river so he knew how
to prepare enough meal for you.”All the crocodiles felt happy and said “Really…? Tell us what
to do,” said a crocodile. “You have to line up from this side of the river to the other side,” said
the mouse deer. Not long after that the crocodile got all his friends and family. He ordered to
lined up across the river.

The mouse deer then jumped on the Crocodile’s back. “One,” the mouse deer counted.
He jumped onto the next crocodile, “Two.” And he jumped again on the next crocodile, “Three.”
he kept jumping until he arrived on the other side of the river. “Just enough,” said the mouse
deer. “I have counted all of you” He laughed and ran to the field of grass.

MALIN KUNDANG

A long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatra, a woman and her son
lived. They were Malin Kundang and her mother. Her mother was a single parent because Malin
Kundang’s father had passed away when he was a baby. Malin Kundang had to live hard with
his mother.

Malin Kundang was a healthy, dilligent, and strong boy. He usually went to sea to catch
fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sold the caught fish in the town.

One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant’s ship which was being
raided by a small band of pirates. He helped the merchant. With his brave and power, Malin
Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and thanked to him. In return the
merchant asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. To get a better life, Malin Kundang agreed. He
left his mother alone.

Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was helped
by many ship crews loading trading goods. Perfectly he had a beautiful wife too. When he was
sailing his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The villagers
recognized him. The news ran fast in the town; “Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is
here”.

An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin
Kundang’s mother. She wanted to hug him, released her sadness of being lonely after so long
time. Unfortunately, when the mother came, Malin Kundang who was in front of his well-
dressed wife and his ship crews denied meeting that old lonely woman. For three times her
mother begged Malin Kundang and for three times he yelled at her. At last Malin Kundang said
to her “Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman!” After
that he ordered his crews to set sail. He would leave the old mother again, but in that time, she
was full of both sadness and angriness.

Finally, enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn’t
apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and really set sail.

In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was
too late for Malin Kundang to apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship. He fell on
a small island. It was really too late for him to avoid his curse. Suddenly, he turned into a stone.

TIMUN EMAS

Long time ago in the island of Java, Indonesia, lived a couple of farmer. They had
married for some years but they had no children. So they prayed to a monster called Buta Ijo to
give them children. Buta Ijo was a ferocious and powerful monster. He granted their wish on one
condition. When their children had grown up, they had to sacrifice them to Buta Ijo. He liked
eating fresh meat of human being. The farmers agreed to his condition. Several months later the
wife was pregnant.

She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. They named her Timun Emas. The farmers were
happy. Timun Emas was very healthy and a very smart girl. She was also very diligent. When
she was a teenager Buta Ijo came to their house. Timun Emas was frightened so she ran away to
hide. The farmers then told Buta Ijo that Timun Emas was still a child. They asked him to
postpone. Buta Ijo agreed. He promised to come again. The following year Buta Ijo came again.
But again and again their parents said that Timun Emas was still a child.

When the third time Buta Ijo came their parents had prepared something for him. They
gave Timun Emas several bamboo needles, seeds of cucumber, dressing and salt.

‘Timun, take these things’

‘What are these things?’

‘These are your weapons. Buta Ijo will chase you. He will eat you alive. So run as fast as you
can. And if he will catch you spread this to the ground. Now go!’

Timun Emas was scared so she ran as quickly as she could. When Buta Ijo arrived she
was far from home. He was very angry when he realized that his prey had left. So he ran to
chase her. He had a sharp nose so he knew what direction his prey ran.

Timun Emas was just a girl while Buta Ijo was a monster so he could easily catch her up.
When he was just several steps behind Timun Emas quickly spread the seeds of cucumber. In
seconds they turned into many vines of cucumber. The exhausted Buta Ijo was very thirsty so he
grabbed and ate them. When Buta Ijo was busy eating cucumber Timun Emas could run away.

But soon Buta Ijo realized and started running again. When he was just several steps
behind Timun Emas threw her bamboo needles. Soon they turned into dense bamboo trees. Buta
Ijo found it hard to pass. It took him some time to break the dense bamboo forest. Meanwhile
Timun Emas could run farther.
 Buta Ijo chased her again. When he almost catch her again and again Timun Emas threw
her dressing. This time it turned into a lake. Buta Ijo was busy to save himself so Timun Emas
ran way. But Buta Ijo could overcome it and continued chasing her.

Finally when Timun Emas was almost caught she threw her salt. Soon the land where
Buta Ijo stood turned into ocean. Buta Ijo was drowned and died instantly. Timun Emas was
thankful to god and came back to her home.

On a land of Parahyangan, there lived a beautiful princess named Dayang Sumbi.

Because of her oath, she had to marry a dog named Tumang. Dayang Sumbi with her dog lived
happily and blessed with a boy, Sangkuriang. The boy didn’t know that their dog was his father.
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang with his dog to hunt a deer. Sangkuriang got
nothing. He did not want to disappoint his mother. He decided to kill his dog. Dayang Sumbi
thought it was venison. After knowing the truth, Sangkuriang was hit and expelled by his
mother.
Sangkuriang grew overseas into a powerful handsome man. Then, he met Dayang Sumbi
then fell in love with her. One day before wedding, Dayang Sumbi realized that Sangkuriang
was her son. Dayang Sumbi wanted to thwart their marriage. She gave a condition to make a
dam that covered the entire hill and to make a boat during one night.
Sangkuriang agreed then worked with help of many genies. The dam and boat were almost
finished. Dayang Sumbi prayed to God. The roosters crowed so all genies left that job.
Sangkuriang realized that he had been tricked. He was angry; he kicked that boat into the middle
of a forest. Then, that boat shaped like a mountain. That is the legend of Tangkuban Parahu.

THE LEGEND OF PRAMBANAN TEMPLE

Once, there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name was Rara Jonggrang. Rara
Jonggrang whose beauty was very famous in the land was the daughter of Prabu Baka, and evil
king.

One day, a handsome young man with super natural power named Bandung Bondowoso
defeated and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess Rara Jonggrang’s beauty, Bandung
Bondowoso fell in love with her and wanted to marry her.

Meanwhile, Princess Rara jonggrang felt sad due to her death father. She did not want to
marry Bandung because he had killed her father. But she was also afraid of Bandung. So to
refuse politely, she made a condition. “I will marry you but you have to build one thousand
temples in one night as a wedding gift” requested Rara Jonggrang. Bandung Bondowoso agreed
with the condition. Helped by the spirit of the demons, Bandung Bondowoso started building the
temples. Approaching midnight, the work would nearly be done. Rara Jonggrang knew and
thought, “What shall I do? Bandung Bondowoso is smarter than I thought. I would lose against
Bandung.”

Suddenly she got an idea. She woke up all the women in the palace and ordered them to
make the noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the rooster thought that it had already been dawn.
Bandung Bondowoso got frustrated because he failed completing one, the thousandth temple.

The Princess has deceived me!” Following his anger, he cursed Roro Jonggrang, “You
have been cheated. Now, the thousandth temple is you!”

At once, the Princess turned into a statue. knowing this, Bandung Bondowoso regretted
and he went away into a farm land. From then, people called the temple, Prambanan Temple,
and the Princess statue, Rara Jonggrang statue.

THE LEGEND OF KESODO FEAST IN MOUNT BROMO

Hundreds years ago, the last king of Majapahit had a young princess from one of his
wives. The princess was named Roro Anteng. Later, Roro Anteng married Joko Seger, who
came from Brahman caste.

Because of unfortunate situation the couple was forced to leave the kingdom. They
settled in the mountain area. They ruled the area and named it Tengger, which was derived from
their names, Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.

After several years of reign, the region flourished in prosperity, but Roro Anteng and
Joko Seger were sad because they did not have a child. They climbed the top of mountain and
prayed there night and day hoping that the God would listen. The prayer was heard and Betoro
Bromo promised to give them many children. However, they had to promise that they would
sacrifice their youngest child in return.

Roro Anteng gave birth to a child, then another and another. In the end, Roro Anteng and
Joko Seger had 25 children. Soon it was time to sacrifice the youngest child , Kusuma, but the
parents could not do it. They tried to hide him, but an eruption happened and Kusuma fell into
the crater. There was silence before they heard a voice. “I have to be sacrificed so that you will
all stay alive. From now on, you should arrange an annual offering ceremony on the 14th of
Kesodo (the twelfth month of Tengerese calendar)”. It was Kusuma’s voice. Kusuma’s brothers
and sisters held the offering ceremony every year. Instead of human being, they collected fruits,
vegetables, rice, and meat to be offer to the Gods. And this has been done generation after
generation until today.

THE LEGEND OF RAWA PENING

Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into a little village. He was very
hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food, but nobody cared about
him. Nobody wanted to help the little boy.

Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the boy
wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a lesung, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She
reminded him; “Please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself. Use this lesung; as
a boat!”

The little boy was happy and thanked the old woman.He continued his journey. While he
was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came
closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick.
Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd laughed
mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He
could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded
the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old
woman who gave him shelter and meal. As she told him, he used the lesung, as a boat and
picked up the old woman. The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa
Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

THE LEGEND OF TELAGA WARNA

Long time ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a king
named His Majesty Prabu.

Prabu was a kind and wise king. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn’t got any
children. The queen often cried. That was why Prabu went to the jungle. There he prayed to God
every day, begging for a child.

A few months later, the queen got pregnant. Nine months later, a princess was born.
Prabu and Queen loved their beautiful daughter so much. They gave whatever she wanted. It
made Princess turn into a very spoiled girl.

One day, the princess celebrated her 17th birthday party. Many people gathered in the palace.
Then, Prabu took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel.

“My beloved daughter, today I give you this necklace. Please, wear this necklace,” said Prabu.

“I don’t want to wear it! It’s ugly!” shouted the princess. Then she threw the necklace. The
beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor. Everybody
couldn’t say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would do that cruel thing.
In their silence, people heard the queen crying. Every woman felt sad and began crying, too.
Then, everybody was crying. Then, there was a miracle. Earth was crying.

Nowadays, people called the lake “Telaga Warna”. It means “Lake of Color”. On a bright day,
the lake is full of color. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and sky
around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the princess’s necklace, which
spreads at the bottom of the lake.

“THE FORBIDDEN CHAMBER”

Once there was an evil wizard who dressed as a beggar. He went from house to house
asking for alms and stealing pretty girls. One day he knocked on the door of a house. There lived
a man with three beautiful daughters. The eldest daughter opened the door then wizard
hypnotized her. He took her to his house in the midst of woods. Everything was magnificent
there. First daughter had all things she wished for.
One day, wizard had to go on a journey. He left keys of all rooms to her. She could enter
every room except one, otherwise she could die. He also gave an egg she needed to care.

After wizard left his house, daughter looked into every room and found beautiful things.
Then she was curious to know about the forbidden room. She entered that room and found
hundreds of kidnapped girls who had fallen asleep. First daughter frightened then ran out of the
room. In a hurry, she dropped the egg; it turned red. Wizard came back. He knew what had
happened. Then, he dragged her into that forbidden chamber.

Next day, he went back to same house and took second daughter. But same thing
happened to her. He went back and kidnapped the youngest sister, but this girl was very wise.

Before entering forbidden chamber, she put the egg in a cupboard. Having known that
there were many girls in that room including her sisters, she had an idea to release them. Wizard
thought that third daughter did what he said. He decided to marry her.

Before getting married, daughter asked wizard to send a full basket of gold to her
parents. In the bottom of that basket, there were her sisters covered with gold. While wizard left
his house, daughter let all girls free. She also asked those girls as well as their parents to come to
wizard’s house.

When wizard came back, those girls with their parents dragged him into that forbidden
chamber, locked the door and set fire to wizard’s house.

CINDERELLA

Once upon a time there lived an unhappy young girl. Her mother was dead and her father
had married a widow with two daughters. Her stepmother didn’t like her one little bit. All her
kind thoughts and loving touches were for her own daughters. She had to work hard all day.
Only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. That’s
why everybody called her Cinderella.

Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat said, “Miaow“,
which really meant, “Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters has and that is
beauty.” It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in old rags, was a lovely girl. While her
stepsisters, no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still ugly and always would
be.

One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at the palace
and the stepsisters were getting ready to go. Cinderella didn’t even dare ask if she could go too.
She knew very well what the answer would be: “You? You’re staying at home to wash the
dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters.” . Cinderella sighed, “Oh
dear, I’m so unhappy!” and the cat murmured “Miaow.”

Suddenly something amazing happened. As Cinderella was sitting all alone, there was a
burst of light and a fairy appeared. “Don’t be alarmed, Cinderella,” said the fairy. “I know you
would love to go to the ball. And so you shall!” Cinderella replied, “How can I, dressed in
rags?”

The fairy smiled. With a flick of her magic wand Cinderella found herself wearing the
most beautiful dress she had ever seen. Said the fairy; “A real lady would never go to a ball on
foot! Quick! Get me a pumpkin!” “Oh of course,” said Cinderella, rushing away. Then the fairy
turned to the cat. “You, bring me seven mice, and, remember they must be alive!”

Cinderella soon returned with the pumpkin and the cat with seven mice he had caught in
the cellar. With a flick of the magic wand the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the
mice became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman in a smart
uniform and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.

“You shall go to the ball Cinderella. But remember! You must leave at midnight. That is
when my spell ends. Your coach will turn back into a pumpkin and the horses will become mice
again. You will be dressed in rags and wearing clogs instead of these glass slippers! Do you
understand?” Cinderella smiled and said, “Yes, I understand!”
 Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball until she heard the first stroke of midnight!
She remembered what the fairy had said, and without a word of goodbye she slipped from the
Prince’s arms and ran down the steps. As she ran she lost one of her slippers, but not for a
moment did she dream of stopping to pick it up! If the last stroke of midnight were to sound…
oh… what a disaster that would be! Out she fled and vanished into the night.

The Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up the slipper and said to his
ministers, “Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be
content until I find her!” So the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of every girl in the land
until only Cinderella was left.

“That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball,” snapped the stepmother.
“Tell the Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Can’t you see how ugly Cinderella
is?”but, to everyone’s amazement, the shoe fitted perfectly.

Suddenly the fairy appeared and waved her magic wand. In a flash, Cinderella appeared
in a splendid dress, shining with beauty. Her stepmother and stepsisters gaped at her in
amazement, and the ministers said, “Come with us Cinderella! The Prince is waiting for you.“
So Cinderella married the Prince and lived happily ever. As for the cat, he just said “Miaow!”

MOMOTARO PEACH BOY ( From Japan )

A long time ago, there lived an old and poor couple in a village in Japan. They didn’t
wish for gold or fine clothes. They only wished for a child.

One day, the old woman washed clothes in a river. While washing, she was also wishing
for a child. Then, a giant peach came floating down the river. She took it home and would cut it.

There was a human voice from that peach saying not to cut it. Suddenly it split open; a
baby boy jumped out of that peach. Those old people were very happy and named him
Momotaro which means Peach Boy.

Time went by and people in that village were afraid of Oni Monsters who stole their
belongings. When Momotaro was about 15 years old, he wanted to save his village from Oni
Monsters. Momotaro’s parents were very proud of Momotaro. His father gave him a sword;
mother gave him a bag of dumplings.

On the way, Momotaro met a dog, a monkey and a hawk. He shared those dumplings to
them. Those animals joined him to fight Oni Monsters. Being a good leader, Momotaro
encouraged them to work together.

Finally, Momotaro sucessfully forced Oni leader to surrender. Then Momotaro with his
friends took treasure then shared it to all people in the village. Momotaro’s parents were very
happy that Momotaro came back safely.

Dick Whittington and his Cat ( From England )

There was once a poor boy named Dick Whittington who lived in a village without
parents. He had heard stories about a big city called London where everybody was rich; London
streets were paved with gold. He wanted to go there.

One day, he met a friendly wagoner who gave him a lift to the city. He was amazed at
that big city. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find any gold on the street. He had no money and ate no
food few days. He collapsed in front of a kind rich merchant’s house.

The merchant gave him a job in his kitchen. But a cook didn’t like him; he used to beat
and pinch him. Dick Whittington had to sleep in a tiny room with many rats and mice which
bothered him every night. Then, he decided to buy a cat by using his saving. Luckily, that clever
cat was very good at catching mice and rats.

One day, merchant would go on a long voyage and sell everything on his ship. Dick
Whittington asked merchant to help him sell his cat. After arriving in a destination, merchant
was invited by King and Queen to a feast. However, hundreds of rats gobbled all of food there.
Merchant offered the clever cat to help King solve his problem.

King was very happy. He gave the merchant a ship full of gold in return. Finally,
merchant gave all of the gold to Dick Whittington. He spent money wisely and helped people.

THE LEGEND OF PHILIPPINES

Many thousands of years ago, a man and his wife lived in the Philippines, they were
called Angngalo and Angngarab.

One morning, they went to gather some shellfish. Inside one, they found a pearl. It was
an unusual yellow colour and very large.

Angngalo gave it to Angngarab. “Oh!” she said, “I can find many more pearls than you!”

Soon they were quarrelling and shouting at each other. They ran along the seashore
looking for shellfish. Before, they had a big pile in front of them. They pulled open the shells
and looked in them for pearls.

“I’ve go more pearls than you!” shouted Angngalo.

“No, you haven’t!” answered Angngarab. “Anyway, my pearls are bigger than yours!”

Soon, they were fighting. They threw the shells and pearls at each other. (That is why
there are so many shells and pearls in the Philippines) They rolled on the ground and stamped

THE LEGEND OF HONGKONG CITY

A long time ago, there was a village near Arberdeen called “Hong Kong Ts’un” or
“Incense Harbour Village”. The incense grown there was famous throughout China. Some of it
was even sent to the Chinese Emperor. Some people believe that the name Hong Kong comes
from this village.

One day, the Emperor wanted some incense sent to him from the village. The villagers
did not send it to him. The Emperor then ordered his officer to arrest the village headmen and
cut off their heads. After that, everyone ran away from the village and no more incense was
grown there.

But some other people believe that Hong Kong is named after a container for burning
incense. Long, long ago, this container was picked up in the harbor. It was kept in a tample at
Causeway Bay. The place where it was found was called “Hong Kong” or “Incense Harbour”

There is a third story that Hong Kong is named after a woman called Hong ku. She was
the wife of a pirate chief. After her husband died, she became the leader of the pirates. She then
moved to the island which is now called Hong Kong. If this story is true, the name “Hong kong”
means “Hong’s Harbour”.

According to yet another story, Hong Kong is named after a stream near Pokfulan Road.
The water was very pleasant to drink. Many years ago, people used to go there to collect
drinking water. The stream was called “Hong Kong” or “sweet stream”.

Ali Baba

Once upon a time there were 40 cruel thieves who put their stolen money and treasures in
a cave. They went in the cave by saying ”Open Sesame” to the cave entrance. A poor person,
named Ali Baba saw them while they were doing that, so he heard the opening word. After they
left, he went toward the cave and opened it. Suddenly he found a very large quantity of money
and golden treasures. He took some of it and went back home. After that he became a rich man
and his brother wanted to know how he became rich.

Ali Baba turned into the richest man in his village. His evil brother was really jealous of
him, and wanted to know how he could get such a lot of money. Therefore, when Ali Baba went
to the cave again to take some more money, his brother followed him. He saw everything, and
decided to go back the next day to take some money for himself. The next morning he found a
lot of money in the cave, and he wanted to take all of them. Unfortunately, when he was busy
carrying the money to his house, the thieves came. The boss of the thieves asked him how he
knew about the cave. He told everything, but unluckily they killed him and went to Ali Baba’s
house.

After finding Ali Baba’s house, they made a plan to kill him the following night. Some
of the thieves hid in big jars, and the boss pretended that he was a merchant who wanted to sell
the jars to Ali Baba. Ali Baba who was a kind man invited the boss of the thief to have lunch
together.

After lunch they took a rest. Luckily, the house maid went out of the house, and found
that there were thieves inside the jars. She finally boiled hot oil and poured it into the jars to kill
all of them. The boss of the thieves was caught, and put into prison.

Ali Baba was saved from the danger, and he finally lived happily ever after with his maid
who became his wife shortly after.

PINOCCHIO

Once upon a time, there was a puppeteer named Geppetto. He really wanted a boy but his
wife has been died for a long time ago. One day, he had an idea. He wanted to make a puppet so
he would never felt lonely again. He made a puppet all night without resting. In the morning,
finally he finished his work. He named the puppet, Pinocchio. He played whole day with
Pinocchio. However, he felt lonely again because Pinocchio couldn’t talk or walk by himself. In
the middle of the night, Geppetto prayed to the God. His wish was Pinocchio became a real boy,
human. He thought it on his mind in his dream.

In the next morning, he surprised. Pinocchio was alive. He really was happy. He tough
Pinocchio how to walk, how to speak, how to read etc. like a teacher. Pinocchio learned fast. He
entered an elementary school. One day, Pinocchio felt bored. So, he went home late. Geppetto
worried about him. When Pinocchio came to home, Geppetto asked him. He said he was on
school but he didn’t. Suddenly, Pinocchio’s nose grow longer. It meant that Pinocchio lied.

The next day, Pinocchio got caught by thieves. The thieves was the owner of circus.
Pinocchio became a slave for the circus. He was famous because he was a talking puppet.
Geppetto worried him. Pinocchio didn’t come home for 2 days. He found Pinocchio everywhere.
When he discovered the sea, big wave smashed him. He was on whale’s stomach when he
awoke. He couldn’t find the way out.

In different place, Pinocchio finally could get out from circus. He went to home but
Geppetto wasn’t on there. He found Geppetto at sea. He had the same accident like Geppetto. He
met Geppetto in whale’s stomach. They got out from its stomach by made a fire.

They went home back together. In the end, they lived happy forever after.

JAKA TARUB AND NAWANG WULAN

Jaka Tarub was a handsome and diligent young man. He lived in a village near a lake.
One day, when Jaka Tarub passed the lake, he heard some giggles and laughs of some girls who
were bathing in the lake. He was curious, so he peeped through the bushes. There were seven
beautiful girls in the lake. They’re fairies from the heavenly kingdom of kahyangan. Jaka Tarub
saw a scarf near the bushes. It belonged to one of the fairies. Jaka Tarub then took it and hid it.

Crack!!! Accidentally, Jaka Tarub stepped on a twig. “There’s someone!” said one of the fairies.
“Let’s get back. Hurry!” she said. They pulled over and wear their scarf. “Where is my scarf?”
one of the fairies couldn’t find her scarf. She was the youngest fairy called Nawang Wulan.
They tried to search for it, but it was no where to be found. “We’re sorry, Wulan. We have to go
back to kahyangan,” said the eldest fairy. “You’ll have to find it by yourself. We’ll wait for you
in kahyangan,” she said in empathy. The other fairies then flew to the sky leaving Nawang
Wulan behind. Nawang Wulan saw them leaving in tears. She was so sad.

“Excuse me …,” said Jaka Tarub, startling Nawang Wulan. “Are you okay?” he asked. Nawang
Wulan moved backward, “Who are you?” she asked. “My name is Jaka Tarub. I was passing by
and I heard you crying, so I came to see what happen,” Jaka Tarub lied. Nawang Wulan then
told him about her problem. “I can’t fly without my scarf,” she said. Jaka Tarub then asked
Nawang Wulan to come home with him. At first, Nawang Wulan refused the offer. But since she
didn’t have anywhere else to go, Nawang Wulan then decided to follow Jaka Tarub.

Nawang Wulan stayed with Jaka Tarub in the village. A month passed, and they decided
to get married. Nawang Wulan was willing to marry a human because she fell in love with Jaka
Tarub. After a year, they had a beautiful daughter. They named her Kumalasari. They lived
happily.

Jaka Tarub was also happy to live with Nawang Wulan and Kumalasari. Especially
because he always got a lot of harvest since he married Nawang Wulan. He couldn’t even keep
all of his harvest in the barn because it was always full. “It’s so weird. Nawang Wulan cooked
everyday, but why is my barn always full,” Jaka Tarub mumbled to himself. He was so curious.
One day, Jaka Tarub stayed at home. “I want to stay home today. I’d like to play with
Kumalasari,” he said to his wife. “Well, I’ll go to the river to wash the clothes. Please keep an
eye on Kumalasari,” asked Nawang Wulan. “I’m cooking rice now. Please do not open the pan
cover before it’s done,” she said just before she left. “Could this be the secret?” Jaka Tarub
thought. After Nawang Wulan left, he curiously opened the pan cover. He found only one single
paddy. “How come?” he wondered.

Before lunch, Nawang Wulan came home. She headed to the kitchen to see the rice she
had cooked. She found that the rice turned into only a few grains. “Did you open the pan cover?”
she asked her husband. “I… I’m sorry. I was curious,” Jaka Tarub said as he realized his fault.

Ever since, Nawang Wulan had lost her power. She couldn’t cook rice with only a single
paddy. Their paddy supply was slowly lessened. Their barn was almost empty. One day,
Nawang Wulan went to the barn to get some paddy. When she took one of them, she found a
scarf. “What’s this? This is my scarf,” said Nawang Wulan startled.

That night, Nawang Wulan asked her husband about the scarf. Jaka Tarub’s eyes
widened, “You found it?” he asked. Jaka Tarub looked down and asked for her forgiveness.
“Because I’ve found my scarf, it’s time for me to go back to where I belong,” Nawang Wulan
said. Jaka Tarub tried to stop her, but Nawang Wulan had made up her mind. “Please take good
care of Kumalasari,” she said. “If she wanted to see me, take seven grains of candlenut and put it
into a basket. Shake it as you play the bamboo flute. I’ll come to see her,” she explained.
 Jaka Tarub promised to take good care of their daughter. He once again asked for
forgiveness for all of his mistakes. “I’ve forgiven you, so you don’t have to feel guilty. I must go
now. Take care,” said Nawang Wulan as she flew to the bright full moon
