1.2Types of fertilizers
A) Organic fertilizers
B) Chemical fertilizers
Fertilizer is a substance to soil to improve plants’ growth and yield. First used by ancient
farmers fertilizer technology developed significantly as the chemical needs of growing
plants were discovered. Modern synthetic fertilizers are composed mainly of nitrogen,
phosphorous and potassium compounds us the secondary nutrients added. The use of
synthetic fertilizers has significantly improved the quality and quantity at the food
available today but their long-term use is debated by environmentalists.
1950 to 1989 During this period, with temporary setbacks notably due to the oil crises
in the 1970s, there was a sustained increase of world mineral fertilizer consumption,
which increased from 14 to 143 million tonnes N+P2O5+K2O, nitrogen, phosphate
and potash, or almost 6% per annum.1989-90 to 1993-94. During these four years
world fertilizer consumption fell by 23 Mt, from 143 to 120 Mt total nutrients. The
reduction was due to a 23 Mt. decline of fertilizer nutrient use in the countries of
Central Europe and of the Former Soviet Union, the FSU, and also, to a lesser extent,
a fall of almost 5 Mt. in West Europe. The falls were partly offset by increases in
Asia.1993-94 to 1999-2001.

The Indian fertilizer industry has come a long way since the setting up of the
manufacturing unit of Single Super Phosphate near Chennai in 1906. A new impetus
to the growth of Indian fertilizer Industry was provided by the set up the two fertilizer
plants -Fertilizer and Chemicals Travancore of Indian Limited in Kerala and the
Fertilizer Corporation of India in Bihar. This was during the forties and the fifties.
The aim was to create an Industrial base that would provide India with self-reliability
in food grains
There are main four companies which produce chemical fertilizer in Gujarat. Out of
them the Gujarat State Fertilizer Chemical Limited established the first ever chemical
fertilizer factory in Gujarat at Baroda in 1967. GSFC was first joint sector industrial
unit in India with equity capital of State government 49% and public 51%. It was also
first unit to manufacture DAP. Fertilizer in India them in nine years later, in 1976 the
Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Company Limited popularly known as GNFC
established a chemical fertilizer factory at Barouche. GNFC promoted by the
government of Gujarat and GSFC. After the establishment of these two companies in
Gujarat, in1975 Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-operative Limited (IFFCO) set up its
plants at Kalol and Kandla in Gujarat. Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited
(KRIBHCO) established its manufacturing unit in Gujarat. First used by ancient
farmers fertilizer technology developed significantly as the chemical needs of
growing plants were discovered. The use of synthetic fertilizer has significantly
improved the quality and quantity of the food available today. Their long-term use is
harmful the environmentalists.
The fact of care can be expressed in thought and action. And since its beginning, in
1962, GSFC has consistently translated the facet of care in its every activity.
Unfolding before you are the epic of the Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd, an
organization, in the annals of Indian Corporate history, founded on the single-minded
principle of offering the best to the customer. GSFC is taking its philosophy of care
and extending it to every facet of its existence, employees, suppliers, services, society
and even the environment. GSFC is also contemplating an investment outlay of
approx. Rs. 8,000 Crores for setting up an integrated fertilizer and petrochemicals
complex at Dahej.

Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd. (KRIBHCO) was incorporated on 17th April 1980
and is a Multi-State Cooperative Society deemed to be registered under the Multi-
State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002. KRIBHCO is primarily a fertilizer
production cooperative having production unit at Hazira (Surat) in the state of
Gujarat. The Government of India through the Department of Fertilizers was a
member of KRIBHCO but its equity holding was reduced to NIL on 4th July 2013
under the provisions of the MSCS Act 2002. KRIBHCO is not owned nor controlled
nor financed by the Government of India or Any State Governments. KRIBHCO had
also entered into Logistics Business, Oman India Fertilizer Complex (OMIFCO),
Diversification into Power Sector, Insurance Sector etc.

The possible ways to increase the sugarcane production to meet the need of the
population increase the area under sugarcane cultivation, improve the available water
resources, increase the productivity of sugarcane and accelerate adoption and diffusion
of new and improved technologies. As there are little chances to increase the area under
sugarcane and increase the water resources, the only possible way is to increase the
productivity of sugarcane i.e. the vertical dimension productivity. This can be done
only through innovative technologies. The organic sugarcane framings labour-intensive,
but its cost of cultivation is lower due to savings on chemical fertilizers, irrigation,
seeds and agrochemicals. Another thing this study has revealed that organic sugarcane
farming has enormous potential for improving sustainability of agriculture and has
suggested that organic farming should receive prime attention.
Bio-fertilizers being essential components of organic farming play vital role in
maintaining long term soil fertility and sustainability by fixing atmosphere, mobilizing
fixed macro and micro nutrients soil into forms available to plants, there by increases
their efficiency and availability. The cost and environmental impact of chemical
fertilizer, excessively depends on the chemical fertilizers is not viable strategy in long
run because of the cost. Involved in setting up of fertilizer plants and sustaining the
production. In this context, organic manures (bio-fertilizers) would be the viable option
for farmers to increase productivity per unit area.

SUGGESTION

Farmers should consult cooperative society or KISAN CALL CENTRE before using
fertilizers in their land or farm according to types of sugarcane.
Cooperative society members should also share their knowledge, experience and
technique to other farmers in order to increase productivity of sugarcane.
Before using particular fertilizer in sugarcane, farmers should go through with their
past experience or result which help to rectify their past errors and get good results i.e.
productions, quality, quantity.
Before using any sort of fertilizer, farmer should get the health report of the land and
its fertility in order to use the type of fertilizer and check its compatibility.
Government should also run the campaign to cultivate sugarcane by using organic
fertilisers or government should also provide more subsidies on organic fertilizers
rather than chemical which divert farmers towards organic farming.
By following all the above steps correctly, farmers can increase the productivity of
their total production.

CONCLUSION
Shri S.V. Patel College Of Computer Science & Business Administration Page 26
TO STUDY FARMERS SARTISFACTION TOWARDS AGRICULTURE FERTILIZER
PRODUCTS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SUGARCANE FARM IN KAMREJ AREA
As per the observation, just about three fourth which are 66% of the farmers use
chemical fertilizers for their production of sugarcane, which should be reduced and
shifted towards organic fertilizers.
It was found that the farmers are not ready to shift towards organic fertilizer because
it is expensive in compare to chemical fertilizer and it does not increase productivity
substantially.
As per the observation, the farmers get most of their information and knowledge
about fertilizers from cooperative societies. So government should share the key
findings and research with the cooperative society in order to communicate it with the
farmers.
As per the observation, the farmers still have more trust and confidence to purchase
fertilizers from stores rather than purchasing online. Majority of all those farmers who
have purchased online, find no deviation in price, quality and quantity.
