ESL LESSON PLAN

This handout accompanies the cartoon "The Lion King 1" (1994). It will be
ideal for your ESL elementary students, and can be used as the last
lesson of the term | year, or as a lesson plan for your substitute
teacher.

The product consists of 7 pages of printable handouts + teacher's copy


with keys.

What is inside?
- pre-viewing exercises, introducing all necessary words from the
cartoon
- viewing activities, which include comprehension questions, listening for
specific information, completing the sentences, completing the table, etc.
- post-viewing exercises, where the students will have to sum up
everything they have learnt about the characters.

How to start this lesson?


Let the students know that they are going to watch a cartoon, which
they probably have already watched in their language. That's why the
main focus will be on vocabulary and understanding characters' words.
Tell the students that they are going to watch only the first part of
the cartoon about Simba's childhood.
The video is divided into several parts and students will have to do
different tasks after watching each part. Some scenes will be watched
twice in order to understand the characters' words better.

PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES

1) Look at the picture and write the answers:

3) WHAT IS THE CARTOON GOING TO BE ABOUT?

2) Study the new words. Translate them into your language. Try to memorize them.
