Discussion Questions on Terms and Concepts:

1.) Be able to describe a communication event you have experienced that illustrates each of the
five "Communication Universals." Explain how.

2.) What makes someone and effective Communicator? How will being an effective
communicator be valuable in your life as you see it?

3.) Think of at least three examples of "codes," one each in three different media.

4.) Come up with examples of how variations in each of the four types of "environment" can
affect and alter meaning (e.g. How could the same words mean something different in different
environments?)

According to my findings, I believe that, First things first in Communication Universals,

is “You cannot not communicate”, so for me, based on my experience, if you do not
communicate well to the receiver, both of you will not understand well, so in my scenario in
which, way back on my junior high school years, that my teacher ask to me that what’s
happening to me because, my head ache is turns out to much like go out, I have a high
temperature, so, I did not tell my teacher of what I feel because I have an report to missed, if I
would go to rest, so, my teacher did not understand me what’s happening to me, because I did
not communicate to her, of what’s going on to me, so therefore, It is wrong not to communicate
to others, it is way to help you to understand others not just their words, but also their tone of
voice, and their emotions and feelings, nonverbal gestures. You want to be prepared to
communicate well when given the opportunity to it.

Second type of Communication in Universals which is, “All communication has a

content and dimensions”, so for me, the best experience for this is the time I talk to my mother,
so whenever we have a conversation through personal at all, it has a serious content likely, to
that she wants me to help to find her favorite Tupperware to have container to the foods, but we
have a content also a comedy we bond about the music, dance and Tiktok videos, so, if there a
content to it to your conversation of messages there is also a Relationship between us, so our
Relationship is Mother- Daughter, as is to it that in this relationship it is where you connected
both of you as you conveying the messages. yet, it is defined the relationship between sender and
the receiver also, so me is the receiver and my mother is the sender. It has feature also under to it
is liking, responsiveness (intensity), control and trust. So, if you say in liking along the lines of
you have an idea to build to that conversation, then has a liking because you love to add more
ideas, in responsiveness, also you are responsible to say/ talk of what your mouth would be go
out to it, because sometimes the receiver is so sensitive. Lastly, in trust, you have a trust in
yourself of what’s you’re talking about to deliver your message through the receiver, then his/her
feedback would be positive.

The third type of Communication Universals, which is the, “Communication is a series

punctuated events” it is not stop in that event, it would go back in the past and also in the present
time, so based on my experience, in my circle of friends, we always talk about our adventures we
go to, like we go sea to have more quality time in our group of friend, and also we talk about
more in our throwback memories like how we to be in face to face interaction, that after class, all
of us we go family park, colon, or karaoke to country mall or everyone we enjoyed a lot of been
our circle of friends, In behalf how stress and pressure we, yet, we also a quality time together to
make some more memories to build.

The fourth one in Communication in Universals which is, “Communication is irreversible

and unrepeatable” it is when the damage has been done to it, for me, based on my experience,
way back my mother is so angry to me, because I have done a things that she never wants to it, I
go to a place that she never knows to it, so she yell at me like I am the stupid, dumb, idiot
daughter in her life, she wished to me to die upon, she likely a monster whenever she would
angry, and so it hurt me so much to it, because she is your mother, yet she say to you that way,
after many days, week, the scars still remain in mind and heart that my mother never felt lucky to
have in her enter life hurting me so much, trauma attacks.

Lastly, in Communication in Universals, which is the, “Communication is culture-

specific”, based on my experience, way back on my SHS days, I have a three group of friends
but before we know each, we have a norm in our self that we have our own thoughts and
behavior, we all girls, but we have a different individual thought and behavior if we are together,
it would be mixed at all, If what’s behavior of one, it could be apply to three of us, because we
are circle. If what’s the thought of one, it could also apply to three of us also, because we are
one, hence, of what we form the thought as a group and behavior as a group, so, of what it is
form it would build the culture, history or tradition of our group as one.

An effective communicator is someone who conveys their message thoroughly and is

receptive and responsive to others' input. Preparation is very important thing. Presence is how
you stand up in the many people, how you put eye contact to them, when listening, effective
communicators make eye contact and use affirmative language like "I hear you" or "I understand
your concerns. As well as, additionally, it makes someone and effective communicator also when
it has a feedback, it also when the sender and receiver are collaborated to each other, so the
message will convey to it completely. Nevertheless, the message that they build was better.
However, the best communicators are the ones that are aware of their own contributions to the
conversation, and know how best to help the flow of dialogue. Communication for the sake of it
is not very helpful. Great communicators will know when a contribution is needed, and when it's
best to let others take the floor.

As I think of different codes in media are, types of media codes, which is the print media,
internet media and broadcast media. but then, there examples of each, First the example of print
media is magazine, in which a periodical publication containing articles and illustrations,
typically covering a particular subject or area of interest. Then, second is internet media the
example is, Radio broadcasting, how it emits radio waves by manipulating the amplitude of the
signal in conjunction with the amplitude of the signal that is being transmitted. Lastly is
broadcast media, the example is television, in which a system for transmitting visual images and
sound that are reproduced on screens, chiefly used to broadcast programs for entertainment,
information, and education.

The examples of how variations of each type of environment can affect and alter the
meaning, for instance, is how they act in many people, how they stand up, how they respect
towards of many people.
