The Evolution of Horses

Directions
1. Print a copy of Table 1 (Horse pictures) and Table 2 (Fossil Evidence)
2. Use Table 3 to help you match each horse picture with the corresponding fossil evidence.
3. Use Table 3 to put the species in order from oldest to most recent (modern horse).
4. Complete the Evolution of Horses Graphic.
a. Put each species in the correct order (oldest to most recent)
b. Explain what characteristics changed for each species.
c. Hypothesize why the characteristics changed. Use the environmental conditions and the concept of natural selection to help you
hypothesize why the characteristics of each horse species changed.
