“BIG EYES”

This movie is the story of real-life artist Margaret Keane, who created iconic paintings. It
portraits community perspective and dilemma towards art, women and children's rights during
that time. We were amazed by each of the work shown in the movie, especially at Margaret. I
was amazed by the artist Margaret that has her own style of painting. I was also amazed by the
music effects used in the movie.
In the first scene, we can see that her husband character is obviously a symbolic for the society
back then. She left the house and took her young daughter to San Francisco. Supporting her
daughter alone. She sells unique painting people with big eyes for a low price. The reason why
her paintings are themed with big eyes, its because that she believed that she can see things in the
eyes. And that’s how she express her emotions. “It’s like a mirage. From the distance, you look
like a painter, but up close there is not much there. “The eyes are the windows of the soul…
That’s why I paint them so big.”.
One day, she met Walter by chance at a local fair whos selling paintings of Parisians
street. She didn’t know a thing that Walter will only use her to create money from her art and
that’s why he proposed to her and they got married. At first, Walter believes in Margaret unique
paintings because a lot of people were amazed by her paintings. I thought that Walter is a faithful
husband and would end up happy and successful because they are both painter. But when Walter
joins the family, he single-handedly ruins a big chunk of Margaret and her daughter’s life. He
steals Margaret’s fame, fortune, and succeeds in emotionally scarring both of them with his
dastardly and diabolical deeds. I'm sad for Margaret because of all the things that happened to
her. She doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment, after all the things that she had done for Walter.
Margaret should not agreed with Walter even if they are married. But in the end, Margaret was
happy because she won the case ad was known as the true artist that painted the portrait “Big
Eyes”. The movie's scenes clearly display traits of materialism and discrimination toward
women. At the same time, the movie thoroughly manifests to what level such traits were
common within the society and how that being reflected on the society's individuals.
We also love the lesson that the movie teaches about being courageous when it comes to
doing the right thing in difficult circumstances. It filled with various plot twist, and life lesson.
We learned to fight for what’s truly yours. If it’s fair-fitting, then you deserve it.
