Operation Sea Lion Hitler plan for the invasion of BritainIs was called operaion Sea Lion. The German Air Force kept busy the Britain defense while the navy could invade by sea. The battle was won by Britain but however Hitler changed his strategy and ordered the Blitz, which was the bombing of the civilians, in London and other cities. When King George VI and his wife Elizabeth refused to leave the city and stayd in Buckingham Palace, they become the symbol of the resistance.
Operation Barbarossa In 1941 German advanced, and the British army was forced to retreat. In June Hitler declared war to the URSS to get the Caucasian’s oilfields, this move is known as Operation Barbarossa. The largest operation in history, but it completly consume all of Germany's resources for the rest of the war.
America joined war When in 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, a US fleet in Hawaii, president Roosevelt couldn’t wait anymore and declared war to Japan. At this point, Gerany, that was an ally of Japan, declared war to America. In the battle of Midway East the Japanese aircraft carriers were sank by the US fleet. Us army also managed to defeate Rommel in Egypt, saving it from the fall. In 1943 the allies landed in Sicily, starting the fight in Italian territory; in the same year germans were stopped by the Soviet in the battle of Stalingrad. At this point the war balance was turning in favor of the allies which in 1944 managed to enter in Rome.
Operation overlord In 1944 the greates amphibious force in history arrived in Normandy, on the so called D-Day; the germans tried to counter-attack in the battle of Bulge, but the allies defeated them.
The end of the war In 1944 in the east front the Soviet army was advancing and freed Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Austria: The following years Hitler committed suicide and Berlin fell. So at the end of the war Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin decided the destiny of the post war world. But while in Europe the war ended in May, Japan continued fighting for three months, the victory of the allies came with the explosion of the two atomics bomb realeased over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
