Read and analyze the problem. Answer the questions below.

James Ryan Cajandab visited a toy store and he found the following.

He wanted to have a ball as a birthday gift for his brother Ryan Glenn, but his
parents said that they don’t have enough money to buy the ball. What would be
the other ways that the boy should do to have a ball?

1. What will you do if you want something from a toy store that your parents
can’t afford to buy?
2. Group the toys that the boy found in the store into two with reference to their
similar characteristics.

Observe the figures inside boxes A and B and describe each.

Let’s describe figures in Group A.

 What is the shape of the playing card? The shape of the playing card is rectangle.
 What are the dimensions of the rectangle? Length and Width
 How many dimensions are there? 2 dimensions

 What is the shape of the puzzle game? The shape of the puzzle game is square.

 What are the dimensions of the square? Length and Width


 How many dimensions are there? 2 dimensions

 What is the shape of the disc? The shape of the disc is circle.
 What are the dimensions of the circle? Length and Width
“also known as diameter.”

 How many dimensions are there? 2 dimensions

What do you call the figures with two dimensions? The figures with 2 dimensions are called
Plane Figures.

What kind of figures do the toys in group A represent? The toys in group A
represent Plane Figures.

Plane Figures – are flat, closed figure and has two dimensions

 What solid figure does the box resemble? The box resembles a rectangular
prism.
 What are the dimensions of the rectangular prism? Length, Width and Height.

 How many are there? 3 dimensions.


Look at the illustration of the rectangular prism.

What is the shape of the top part of the box?


Is it the same with the shape of the bottom part?
The top of the box is in rectangle form. It has the same shape in the
bottom part.

 How many faces does a cone have? 1 circular face
 What is the face of a cone? Its face is in the shape of a circle.

 What solid figure does the ball resemble? The ball resembles a sphere.

 What are the dimensions of the sphere? Length, Width (diameter) and Height

 How many faces does a sphere have? A sphere has no face since it
has no flat sides.

 What solid figure does the die resemble? The die resemble a cube.

 What are the dimensions of the cube? Length, Width and Height

 How many are there? 3 dimensions

 How many faces does a cube have? 6 faces


 What are the faces of a cube? All the faces of a cube are squares .

What do you call the figures with three dimensions? The figures with 3 dimensions
are called Solid Figures.

What kind of figures do the toys in group B represent? The toys in group B represent
Solid Figures.

Solid Figures – are three dimensional figures that have length, width and height.

FACE – Is the flat surface of a solid figure. The faces of a solid figure can be in a
shape of a rectangle, a square, a triangle or a circle depending of the kind of solid
there would be.
