ANTIPHON:
Priest: Praise be to God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies and the
God of all consolation. He comforts us in all our afflictions and this enables us to comfort
those who grieve with the same consolation we have received from him. 2 Cor. 1:3-4.
All: Blessed be God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Priest: I bless the body of Late Mr. Augustine Okonkwo Oiisama with holy water that
recalls baptism of which Saint Paul writes; all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into his death. By baptism into his death we were buried together with him,
so that just as Christ was raised from dead by the glory of the father, we too might live a
new life. For if we have been united with him by likeness to his death, so shall we be united
with him by likeness to his resurrection.
A white cloth is placed on the casket
Priest: On the day of baptism; Brother Oiisama puts on Christ, in the day of Christ's
coming, may
he be clothed with glory. Amen!

The book of the Gospel is now placed on the casket
Priest: The book of the Gospel News of Salvation has been your rule and guide during your
life,
may it now assist you in your journey to the fulfilment of your salvation which you so much
desired.

OPENING PRAYER:
O God, Almighty Father our faith professes that your son died and rose again mercifully
grant that through this mystery, your servant Late Mr. Augustine Okookwo Olisama who
has fallen asleep in Christ, may rejoice to rise again through him who lives and reigns
with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen!
