Ultra-High Efficiency Antennas

COMPANY- Background

• Founded: 2001
•Management:
Extensive experience from supplier and operator environment:
Ericsson, Nokia, Lucent, MSI, Allgon
• Location: Stockholm, Sweden
OPERATORS MISSION
• To produce Erlangs, MB/s and km2 of coverage to
lowest possible production cost!
• To sell Erlangs and MB/s, at a prize that maximizes
profit.

To build sites is not a mission!

ANTENNA – Conventional Feed network

To the left, three of the major vendors

can be seen.
The one to the right has a combination
of circuit board and coaxial cables.
But all three suffers from a loss of
one to two dB per meter of antenna
length.
Which means 2-4 dB of loss for a 2
meter 18 dBi antenna!

Impact of 4 degrees VBW

Towards the horizon If we assume that ”same

tilt” means a tilt with the
same radiation towards the
horizon. We will set the two
antennas at a tilt at or near
their VBW
This will give us for the 21 dBi antenna:
Tilt 4 degrees, upper -3 dB (18 dBi) at -2 degrees and lower -3 dB at -6
degrees

For the 18 dBi antenna:

Tilt 7 degrees, upper -3 dB (15 dBi) at -3,5 degrees and lower at -10,5 degrees
The geometry of CellMax 4 degrees VBW
Towards the horizon
< -16 dB
From a 20 meter tower
a 21 dBi antenna with
4 degrees tilt will give:

The big picture!
• Pointing 75% further out
• Giving 3-4 dB higher gain in bore sight
• Delivering 1 - 3 dB more radiated power

In total, significantly better

performance in the entire cell.
