- One of the reasons for variation in our society is our environment. Someone
who is born from a rich family will have a different lifestyle from someone who is born
from a poor family. Someone who is from cold geographic location will also have a
different lifestyle from someone who is from a hot geographic location. Another
reason is that the world is very large and different people have different minds. Due
to this reason, different cultures and subcultures from all around the world have been
formed. Now, the connection between different cultures makes them realize new
ideas to implement, they can even modify it a bit for improvement. People from
different cultures share ideas with each other, and together, they invent new ideas
that change our culture for the better. This constant change of improvement from all
around the world causes slight variations, and eventually, huge variations within our
society.
2. What are the positive and negative effects of variation in our society? Cite at
least 2 for each.
- The positive effects of variation in our society is that we can learn from the
mistakes of others and avoid doing the same mistakes. We can also adapt great
ideas from other cultures so that we can advance our own society with little to no risk
as we have a backbone or blueprint of the format on what to do in order to succeed.
We can even discuss with other societies in order to coalesce and collaborate,
forming even bigger projects, as more manpower results to more power.
The negative effects of variation in our society is that there may be huge differences
in our language that we might not be able to understand each other, resulting to
misunderstandings. These misunderstandings lead to disagreements between
different societies and therefore may cause a war that leads to nothing but only
destruction. We do not want destruction, we want construction.
3. Cite 2 or more examples that Filipinos were already civilized when the
Spaniards came to the Philippines.
- Filipinos were already civilized even before the Spaniards came to the
Philippines because pre-Spanish Filipinos already had systems for their own day-to-
day life and their own set of cultures, customs, and traditions. They had their own
language and script that was used even before the Colonial period (Baybayin). Some
of them were nomadic hunter-gatherers while others were living on a highly
organized sultanates or kingdom with the Sultan or Datu as their chief. They were
not civilized in the sense that they were advanced, complex, or even courteous in
any manner, but they were civilized enough to progress on their own even without
the help of other countries.
