Civil Geometics
The geomatics industry has grown from US $ 2.02 billion (2002) to US $ 11.7 billion (2007),
registering a growth rate of US $ 2.2 billion per annum world over. In India, due to increased
emphasis on development of civil engineering infrastructure, utilities and service industry in
Urban areas/Public sector, the geomatics field is bound to grow from Rs. 0.683 billion (2007) to
1.5 billion (2011). Therefore, the PG program in Geomatics is designed to strengthen theoretical
concepts and provide practical tools to budding civil engineers and planners. The course
structures is designed to cover fundamental (sem. I), advanced and application (Sem 2), and
specialized course (Sem 3 &4) in the inter-disciplinary field of Geomatics. Additonal focus has
been laid on use of software tools for planning, optimization and decision making through taught
courses and major project. The various fields covered under geomatics includes but not limited
to are Remote Sensing and GIS applications in Natural Resource Management, Hydrology and
Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Disaster Management, Urban & Regional
Planning, Transportation Engineering, Utilities Management, Location Based Services, Web GIS,
and Large Scale Mapping. A strong industry link has been laid with ISRO, BISAG and consulting
agencies for mentoring students.
Course Details:
