Title: Configuration of SMTP and FTP Server using Cisco Packet
Tracer.

OBJECTIVES/AIM:
In this lab experiment our goal is to enhance our Cisco Packet Tracer knowledge and
Configuration of SMTP and FTP Server using Cisco Packet Tracer.
• To build and design a network using Cisco Packet Tracer
• learned about step-by-step configuration of SMTP and FTP Server using Cisco Packet
Tracer.
• To learn how to upload, download, rename and delete a file to the FTP Server.
• To learn about step-by-step configuration of SMTP Server using Cisco Packet Tracer
• To learn how to transfer mail from one client to another client same or different network.

PROCEDURE / DESIGN:

In following design, we will build it in Cisco Packet Tracer which is given in our lab
report 4 Figure10.

1. Create a network topology by setting up all the necessary devices in Cisco Packet Tracer.
2. Configure static IP addresses on the PC, Laptop, Mail server, DNS Server, FTP Server and
other devices.
3. For SMTP Server Configuration, click on the Server and go to the EMAIL option then at
the right side click on to enable the SMTP and POP3. Then, set the domain name and create a
user with password. for FTP Server Configuration, click on the Server and go to the FTP
option then at the right side turn on the FTP server. After that, provide a username and
password for the server. Then, provide the permission to access “Write”, “Read”, “Delete”,
“Rename”, “List” options.
4. Now, an FTP client is built in the PC to send files to an FTP server configured in the
Server. The FTP client can be used to read, write, delete and rename files present in the FTP
server. For accessing the file, there are existing some commands which are listed below:
(a) put - used to upload a file to the server. For example: put ABC.txt
(b) get - used to get(download) a file from the server. For example: get ABC.txt
(c) delete - to delete a file in the FTP directory with the server. For example: delete ABC.txt
(d) rename – used to rename a file. Command: rename “Old file name” “New file name”.
example: rename ABC.txt myFile.txt
(e) dir – use to see the existing listed files in the FTP server directory
(f) quit – use to close the connection
Notice that a domain name is set for the mail server. For that reason, a DNS server is
required for resolving this domain name to IP address. For DNS server configuration, click
on the Server. Then select the DNS option and at the right side turn on the DNS. After that,
set the domain name and IP address. Finally, add them to the server.
Now, configure the mail client on the PCs. Click PC and click the Desktop tab > Email. Enter
your Name, Email address, incoming Mail Server, outgoing Mail Server, user Name, and
Password. Finally, save the information. After completing the process, the Mail Browser
window displays. Now, the client can compose, reply, delete, and receive email.

Configuration
• Build the network topology.
• Configure static IP addresses on the PC, Laptop, and FTP server.
o Click the device and go to the Desktop tab > IP Configuration.
• For PC0: Set 192.168.1.11 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask (Osama).
• For PC1: Set 192.168.1.10 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask (Shagor).
• For PC2: Set 192.168.2.14 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask (Anik).
• For Laptop0: Set 192.168.1.12 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet
Mask(Shuvo).
• For Laptop0: Set 192.168.2.13 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet
Mask(Aman).
• For FTP Server: Set 192.168.1.3 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask.
• Click on the Server and then clicking on the “Services” option to FTP server
configuration.
▪ Click on the FTP option then at the right side click on to enable the
FTP server.
▪ Provide a username and password and then click on “Write”, “Read”,
“Delete”, “Rename”,
• “List” options. At last, click the “Add” button.
▪ Now, an FTP client is built in the PC to send files to an FTP server
configured in the Server. The FTP client can be used to read, write,
delete and rename files present in the FTP server.
• For Mail Server 1(yahoo.com): Set 192.168.1.1 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet
Mask.
• For Mail Server 1(gmail.com): Set 192.168.2.3 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet
Mask.
• For DNS Server1: Set 192.168.1.4 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask.
• For DNS Server2: Set 192.168.2.4 as IP address and 255.255.255.0 as Subnet Mask.
(a) Click on the EMAIL option then at the right side click on to enable the SMTP and POP3.
(b) Set the domain name to gmail.com and click Set.
(c) Create users with password. Click “+” to add the user.
For DNS server configuration, click on the Server and then select the “Services” tap.
(d) Click on the DNS option then at the right side turn on the DNS.
(e) Set name to gmail.com and address to 192.168.2.3 (IP address of mail server). Finally, add
them to the server.
(f) Set name to yahoo.com and address to 192.168.1.1 (IP address of mail server). Finally, add
them to the server.

Discussion & Conclusion
This lab task will help us learn the principles of networking with hands-on experience as well as
develop Cisco technology-specific skills. We will gather a sound knowledge about Configuration of
SMTP and FTP Server using Cisco Packet Tracer
