Overview
This instruction describes the installation of the reference monitor kit into the 9800 C-Arm. The kit can
only be installed into non-motorized systems due to electrical power distribution differences. This kit
is not intended for use on systems that already have a printer or recorder installed.

Safety
Do not attempt to install this kit before reading this entire publication.

Note: Safety glasses and safety shoes are required when performing any installation, servicing, or
maintenance of equipment. See the hazard matrix in the following Energized Electrical Work
Procedure for specific PPE relative to energized electrical work.
Note: Use proper PPE per the 9800 Service manual.
CAUTION Follow all LockOut/TagOut (LOTO) procedures as described in the service manual.

Installation Instructions

1. Pre-install

1.1. Functional Check


1. Start up the system.
2. Check system for functionality.
3. If any issues are found, resolve them before proceeding.
Note: If the Power Motor Relay board is Part # 00-879325-01 it needs to be replaced. Refer to the
Illustrated Parts Manual for the latest version.

1.2. C-Arm Control Panel Cover Removal


1. Raise the vertical column 4” to 8” to make it easier to remove the C-Arm front top cover.
2. Power down the system.
3. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
4. Remove the cross arm brake handle.
5. Remove front top cover and the control panel cover. Discard the front top cover.

6. Disconnect the three switch cables on the control panel cover from the control processor
board(s).

7. Remove the Up, Down, and X-ray switches from the control panel cover and retain the
switches for reuse.

8. Dispose of the removed control panel cover.

Note: Some systems will have the reference monitor components already installed from the factory.
To determine if the reference monitor components are already installed from the factory,
inspect to see if the reference monitor bracket is present by following Step 9.
If the components are already installed, then the component installation steps for the installed
components can be skipped.

9. Inspect for reference monitor bracket.


 If present, skip to Section 6.2 – “Reference Monitor and Control Panel Cover
Installation”.
 If not present, continue on to Section 1.3 “Workstation Covers Removal”.

2. Workstation Coax Cable Installation

1. From the kit, obtain the 9800 Workstation Coax Cable Part # 5760722 and connect P5 to J5
at the front of the Workstation electronics box (eBox).

2. Route the other end of the coax cable J7 to the other side over the printer shelf and then
down the side to P7.

3. Find P7 on the front by the Power Control board.

4. From the kit, obtain heat shrink tubing Part # 00-900478-37-OEC and two cable ties.
5. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the coax cable J7 and connect to the previously
disconnected P7.

6. Slide the heat shrink tubing over the J7-P7 connection and use a cable tie to secure each
end of the heat shrink tubing as shown below.

7. Place the coax cable in the plastic cable loops.

3. Power Motor Relay Cable Installation

Note: If the Power Motor Relay board is Part # 00-879325-01 it needs to be replaced. Refer to the
Illustrated Parts Manual for the latest version.

1. Remove the two screws to open the Power Signal Interface Board access panel. Retain the
screws.

2. Disconnect A11J8 from the Power Signal Interface Board.
3. Remove the DS2 A and B leads from the AC indicator lamp connector, using needle nose
pliers and pulling firmly.

4. On the Power Motor Relay Board, disconnect A4J7 at the bottom of the board and remove
the E15 ground wire. Remove the cable (00-879456-XX) from the system and discard.

5. To facilitate access to the toe space, remove the screws that secure the front leg cover
bracket to the column support bracket in front of the power motor relay board. Set the
screws aside and remove the leg cover bracket.
6. From the kit, obtain the Power Motor Relay Cable Part # 00-885230-01. Connect A4J7 to
P7 on the Power Motor Relay Board.

7. Attach the E15 ground wire from the new cable to the ground point.
8. Route the portion of the cable with A11J8 through the side of the power panel, toward the
Power Signal Interface Board, and then connect A11J8 to P8 on the Power Signal Interface
Board.
9. Connect the DS2 A and B leads to the AC indicator lamp. The leads are not polarized and
can be connected either way.
10. Route the portion of the cable with the AC power plug PS4 behind the cross beam and into
the toe space.
11. Reinstall the screws that were set aside to secure the front leg cover bracket to the column
support bracket in front of the power motor relay board.
12. Close the Power Signal Interface Board access panel and secure it with the two screws that
were previously removed.

4. Reference Monitor Power Supply/Video Balun Assembly Installation

1. From the kit, obtain the Reference Monitor Power Supply/Video Balun Assembly Part
#5715000.

2. Plug the AC power plug PS4 on the Power Motor Relay Cable into the power supply.
3. From the kit, obtain the Power Supply Retention Clip Part # 5492530.

4. On the power supply, remove the release liner from the double-sided tape.

5. Slide the metal retention clip over the power supply about halfway up the body of the
power supply. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.

6. Mount the power supply flush with the inside right wall of the C-Arm toe so that the power
cord elbow points down (as viewed from the front) with the clip over the outside of the toe
wall. Press the power supply firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the right wall.

7. From the kit, obtain the Balun Retainer Clip Part # 5492531.

8. On the balun, remove the release liner from the double-sided tape.
9. Slide the metal retainer clip over the balun. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.
10. With the BNC connector toward the front of the C-Arm, mount the balun to the inside left
wall of the C-Arm toe (as viewed from the front) with the clip over the outside of the toe
wall. Press firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the wall.

5. Reference Monitor LEMO Adapter Cable Installation

1. Remove the cable tie from P1 LEMO wires to gain access to the rear of the P1 LEMO socket.

2. From the kit, obtain the Reference Monitor LEMO Adapter Cable Part # 5555475.

3. Insert the lead labeled P1-21 into P1-pin 21 and the lead labeled P1-23 into
P1-pin 23.

4. From the kit, obtain a cable tie and install it to secure the cable and the existing P1 LEMO
wires.
5. Taking care to keep the cable away from the high voltage cables, route the balun
connector end of the cable down through the side opening in the chassis, down behind the
cross beam, and into the toe space.

6. From the kit, obtain a cable tie and dress the cables.

7. Connect the balun connector end of the LEMO Adapter Cable to the BNC connector on the
Reference Monitor Balun.

6. Reference Monitor Assembly

6.1. Control Panel Cover Mounting Bracket


1. Remove the four mounting screws to remove the Cross Arm Brake Assembly. Retain screws
and brake for reuse.

2. From the kit, obtain the Reference Monitor Bracket Part # 5554892.

3. Install the bracket between the housing and the Cross Arm Brake Assembly.
4. Using Loctite 222 with the four screws previously removed, reinstall the Cross Arm Brake
Assembly.

6.2. Reference Monitor and Control Panel Cover Installation

1. From the kit, obtain the Reference Monitor Control Panel Cover Part # 5477293 and
Reference Monitor Part # 5554962.

2. Install the Up, Down, and X-ray switches removed in 1.2 Step 7 as shown below.

3. Route the reference monitor cables through the top cut out on the control panel cover,
orienting the reference monitor so that it can be fully rotated when facing the X-ray switch.

4. Attach the Reference Monitor Assembly to the control panel cover using the four 10-14 x
½” Torx screws Part # 5492300 from the kit.

Note: Ensure that the monitor cable, ground wire and X-ray switch wires are routed within the
monitor mount channels and that there is sufficient length at both ends such that the wires do
not bind or become pinched when the cover plate is installed.
5. From the kit, obtain the Grommet Edging Part # 5543077, the Pivot Weldment Cover Plate
Part # 5492529 and the four 4-40 x ¼” flat head screws Part # 12-215004-04.
6. Cut the grommet edging to fit each short end of the pivot weldment cover plate. Install the
grommet edging to the plate as shown below.

7. Secure the monitor cable, ground wire and X-ray switch wires to the underside of the
control panel cover using the pivot weldment cover plate and the four 4-40 x ¼” screws as
shown below.

8. Install the monitor cable coiled cord strain relief into the slot on the control panel cover.
From the kit, obtain two cable ties and secure the monitor cable to the two cable anchors
on the inside of the control panel cover.

9. Slide the entire Reference Monitor Control Panel Cover Assembly into the mounting grooves
on the left side of the control panel.

Caution: Be very careful to secure the cover in the grooves so the assembly does not fall
during installation and get damaged.

10. Remove the four screws holding the right control panel and retain screws for reuse. Lower
the right control panel to access the control panel housing.
11. Connect the ground wire from the reference monitor to the control panel housing at the
lower right corner with a 10-32 x ⅜” Torx screw Part # 12-225160-06 provided in the kit.

12. Reinstall the right control panel with the four screws previously removed.
13. Connect the Up, Down, and X-ray switch cables on the control panel cover to the control
processor board(s).

14. Lower the reference monitor and control panel cover assembly onto the control panel
housing. Carefully dress all wires inside the cover to avoid damaging the wires.

15. Secure the reference monitor assembly to the reference monitor bracket with four 10-32 x
1” hex screws Part # 12-312060-020 and #10 flat washers Part # 5492528 provided in the
kit. Tighten the screws one half turn once snug.

16. Reinstall the cross arm brake handle.
17. From the kit, obtain the Reference Monitor Front Top Cover Part # 5492285.

18. Install the monitor cable coiled cord strain relief into the slot on the front top cover. From
the kit, obtain a cable tie and secure the cable to the cable anchor on the inside of the
cover.

19. Route the RJ45 end of the monitor cable through the mainframe circuit area, behind the
cross beam, and down to the balun in the toe space.

20. Connect the RJ45 plug to the balun RJ45 receptacle.

7. Test

1. With the covers still off, connect the interconnect cable and start up the system.

2. Verify that the system starts up with no errors, and that the reference monitor turns on and
displays the same image as the left Workstation monitor.

3. Verify that the control panel console keys, buttons, and display function properly.
4. Verify that the reference monitor swivels and pivots up and down smoothly.

5. If needed, the swivel can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the set screw located at
the lower rear of the curved arm. Tilt can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the two
socket head cap screws located at the upper rear of the curved arm. If the tilt screws are
adjusted, both screws should be adjusted the same amount.

8. Labels

1. From the kit, obtain the Cross Arm Brake Handle Lock/Unlock Label Part # 00-881074-04.
Apply the label to the control panel cover as shown below.

2. From the kit, obtain the English X-ray Warning Label Part # 5476335-1EN. On all systems,
apply the English X-ray warning label to the right of the X-ray activation button on the new
control panel cover as shown.

3. For non-English language systems, obtain the X-ray Warning Label Part # 5476335-1XX (XX
denotes the 2-digit language code) to match the system’s current language configuration.
Refer to publication # 5720384-1EN for aid in identifying the current language configuration.

4. Apply the label on the curved arch surface below the X-ray activation button on the
removed control panel cover.

5. From the kit, obtain the four ½” Round Decals Part # 00-877331-01. Apply a decal over
each screw on the base of the reference monitor.

6. Obtain the “Not for Diagnostic Use” Label from the label sheet Part # 5492283-199 to
match the system’s current language configuration. Refer to publication # 5720384-1EN
for aid in identifying the current language configuration.

7. Apply the label on the front top surface of the monitor as shown below.

9. Finish

1. Properly shut down the system and unplug it.


2. Reinstall all covers.
3. Leave the Reference Monitor Operator Manual with the customer.
4. Discard any parts in the kit that were not used.
