The seven mountain mandate teaches that Christians are called to have influence and dominion over seven spheres (or mountains) of society: religion, family, education, government, media, arts & entertainment, and business. The goal is to transform nations by changing these spheres to be more aligned with biblical values.

Some notable ministries include Christian International, Generals International, and Bethel Church. Schools include Wagner Leadership Institute and Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. These teach concepts like hearing directly from God and fulfilling one's destiny of dominion over a sphere of influence.

What is the seven mountain mandate?

Andrei van Wyk

Seven Mountain Mandate (Dominionism)

(seven mountains of societal influence) (The root of the Dominion Mandate and Dominion theology
as was taught by ‘Peter C Wagner’ first self-appointed Modern-day Apostle of the New Apostolic
Reformation)

Origins of the seven mountain mandate:

In 1975, Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade and Loren Cunningham, founder of Youth With a
Mission (YWAM), developed a “God-given”, world-changing strategy.
Their mandate: Bring Godly change to a nation by reaching its seven spheres, or mountains, of
societal influence.

They concluded that in order to truly transform any nation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, these
seven facets of society must be reached: Religion, Family, Education, Government, Media, Arts &
Entertainment and Business.

How they received the mandate:

They both claim to have been given this message from God.
In 1975, two Christian leaders, Dr. Bill Bright and Loren Cunningham, got together to give each other
a message from God. To their amazement, each had the same message, independently given to
them by God, to give to the other.
About a month later, Francis Schaeffer, leader of L’Brai Fellowship, heard the same thing from God.

What are these mountains (spheres)?

These seven mountains are:
business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, family and religion.
God was showing them, in 1975, that His Kingdom would win back our culture through these fronts.
God wanted these men to equip people to go into these seven mountains of culture and to change
them: to begin reconciling culture back to God.

The NARs view of Gods original plan:

From the beginning of mankind, God intended his followers to have dominion over all the Earth.

“However, over many centuries, followers of God eventually no longer had dominion over all the
earth. In many cases, they had chosen not to be leaders in society, or at least not to represent God’s
Kingdom in their leadership, not attempting to bring His dominion into their jobs and businesses.
Christians lost sight of their purpose on earth, not just to receive Salvation but to bring God’s
purposes into our world.”

Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over
every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

The NAR teaches that we are to have dominion over every aspect of society based on Gen 1:26.
This teaching holds hands with kingdom now theology, they teach we are to bring heaven down to
earth and establish Gods kingdom on earth and only then will Jesus return.

2 Corinthians 5:17-19
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things
have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus
Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling
the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of
reconciliation.

The NAR uses 2 Cor 5:17-19 to teach that due to us being reconciled to God we are to have dominion
over these 7 spheres of influence, they make this a ministry.

Taking over the world so that Jesus can return. Rev 11:15
Revelation 11:15
Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of
this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and
ever!”

In order for the kingdoms of this word to become the kingdoms of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Nar
teaches that we have to first take over these 7 spheres so that we can establish the kingdoms for
Jesus here on earth and then He will return.

Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of [a]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 is used to state that we are in a war against darkness and that by winning this war we
will take over and reclaim what satan has stolen from us, this being the seven spheres.

How the NAR wants to restore Gods vision for mankind (taking dominion of the seven mountains of
societal influence):

They teach that the Christian needs to be enlightened, trained and discipled in order for them to be
able to fulfil their God given ministry in their mountain of society.
Who will enlighten and train them? One would assume scripture would be efficient for this task 2
Tim 3:16-17. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.

To enlighten, train and equip Christians to take back dominion over the earth leaders in the NAR
have planted many schools and universities for training.

Speaking things into existent to change your sphere of influence.

Proponents of the seven mountain mandate hold to the teaching known as word of faith.
They believe that we can do what only God can do, that is to speak things into existence.
One of the texts they abuse to come to this conclusion is Matthew 8:8

Matthew 8:8
The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But
only speak a word, and my servant will be healed

Because Jesus could “only speak a word” and heal and/or change circumstances on earth, we are
now also to be able to do the same.
Quote from chiristianinternational.com (seven mountain mandate, NAR ministry)
“The ability to speak the words of God into a situation or strategy is priceless. It can actually effect
a change.”
Hearing God’s voice:
To be able to bring change in your sphere of influence as well as fulfilling your destiny that the Lord
has for you, you will need to be able to hear the voice of God.

Ministries such as Christian international as well as many schools in the prophetic movement claim
to be able to train and teach you to be able to hear the voice of God.

When they talk about hearing the voice of God they mean to get direct revelation from God, even if
it does not line up with scripture, as Bill Johnson said, God is bigger than His book, meaning that we
are to not question extra biblical revelation coming from Apostles and Prophets in the New Apostolic
Reformation.

The scripture used in the NAR for claiming that they can hear Gods word(s) is John 10:27
John 10:27
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Peter C Wagner teaching dominionism

The late Peter C Wagner was the first to notice and state that God has restored the office of Apostle
and that he was the first modern day apostle after the office of apostle has been restored.
He called this the New Apostolic Reformation, commonly abbreviated as NAR. In the NAR we have
apostles again as well as prophets as we had back in the Old and New Testament, they act with the
same authority as the Apostles of the NT did.
Wagner stated that we are now in a second apostolic age, and that this new phenomenon of the
twenty first century had begun around the year 2001.
