Group Assignment

Case: Suppose that you were a HR manager of a medium company. Your task is to
recruit employees for three positions: IT, doctor, cleaners. Please describe what
sources and channels that you are going to use to recruit people for those three
positions.
I. Overview
There are 3 positions that needed recruiting: IT, doctor, and cleaners. These positions
are in different fields, require different expertise, therefore we need 3 different
recruitment strategies for each position. To identify the right sources and channels, we
need to evaluate the requirements for each job.
1. IT position
The IT jobs require a lot of expertise, experiences and good certificates. Additionally,
The average age of IT employees is around 32, so they are more tech-savvy than the
other 2 positions. Hence, we might implement creative channels like online forums,
events, well-known hiring websites to get their attention, or internships. But since the
requirement of an IT position in terms of expertise is quite high, we also need to look
for other more expensive but higher quality channels and sources such as agencies to
find good leads.
2. Doctor Position
Some organizations need to recruit doctors: beauty centers, pharmaceutical
companies, cosmetics and beauty companies, companies in the restaurant and hotel
industry. In addition, recruiting doctors for medical care is also a need of many big
companies as their employee welfare policy. In this example, the doctors will work as
the requirement for welfare purposes. So, the position won't expect too much
expertises come from the candidates.
3. Cleaner Position
Cleaners don’t require a lot of training and development. The knowledge associated
with cleaning is quite low. Additionally, most cleaners for-hire are middle aged or
elderly people. Therefore, the requirement for a cleaner position, even in a medium
firm, will be much lower than the other two positions. As a result, we suggest using
traditional sources and channels such as newspapers,referrals for hiring cleaners.

II. Recruitment sources and channels


1. Recruiting IT staffs
It can be said that IT is always rated as one of the most human-demanding industries
in Vietnam, businesses often have recruitment needs for a good quality as well as

quantity of employees. In this case, we recommend using an external source of
recruitment.
- Recruiting directly from university: To be able to find good employees in the
information technology industry, the company's employers can look into the top
quality IT training institutions such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology,
FPT university…. Companies can organize Recruitment Day with the goal of an
event attracting high-quality human resources, connecting three parties: Enterprises -
Schools - Students to meet the recruitment needs of many agencies, businesses and
searching needs of student employment while at school.
- Attract employees from other companies: The Company can recruit IT personnel
from other companies in the same industry with higher remuneration.
- Recruitment via social networks and forums: Most of the great IT employees are
passive candidates, so they are likely to pay little attention to the job postings you are
posting on your career site. Employers can find: Community technology websites,
technology forums, local community technology events. Social networking sites like
Facebook or LinkedIn have a large number of users and can create job-matching
groups and connect many people in different industries, so companies can reach many
potential candidates. and have the appropriate capacity.
- Organizing technology events: organizing to meet face-to-face with your target
audience. The topic of this type of event can be discussions about hot topics on
technology forums. Or moreover, you can choose to hold coding contests or
hackathons through which you can gain interest from candidates and easily select
potential employees for positions in the company. If you want to expand your
business' candidate reach, consider hosting global online events.
- Using recruitment websites: Popular recruitment websites provide more services
for businesses such as: proactively recommending suitable candidates, posting ads in
prominent positions, supporting advertising on many different platforms,... Therefore,
businesses will have the opportunity to approach more potential candidates.
- Recruiting through Headhunter companies: Headhunter companies have
professional and effective solutions to help companies find suitable, complete and
timely candidates. In addition, many IT professionals look to Headhunters who can
help them find a job that suits their skills best.
2. Recruiting doctor position
For this position, the company can use three recruiting channels that are medical
universities, public hospitals or private clinics and media.
- Recruitment for this position can be done by linking with medical universities such
as Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi University of Pharmacy, ect. The advantage of
this method is that company can recruit students who are fully equipped with medical
knowledge, which helps to ensure safety during health checks at the company . In
addition, this association by offering short-term internships and certificates upon

completion will help speed up the recruitment process as medical candidates prefer
short-term jobs that give them the opportunity to experience without taking up too
much of their time due to their busy schedule. However, this recruiting channel can
bring one disadvantage that medical students do not have practical work experience,
so they will not bring the best work quality for the position of doctors in the company.
- A reputable human resource to recruit doctors that companies often look to is public
hospitals or private clinics. Currently, many doctors choose to work for a private
company instead of working in a public hospital due to their better salary and benefits,
and less pressure of working in a hospital. Companies entirely possible given
appropriate wage and welfare policies to attract human resources from public and
private hospitals. The benefit of this recruitment source is that there are human
resources with good medical knowledge and a lot of practical experience in handling
arising situations. However, besides that, there are also certain difficulties such as
adapting to the culture when moving from a hospital environment to a business
environment. The company will also have a high cost in paying and retaining doctors.
- The media is also a potential source of recruitment if access to schools and hospitals
is difficult. The company may post vacancies on recruitment websites, with detailed
job descriptions and the company's welfare policy. The strength of this human
resource is the diversity and convenience in selecting suitable candidates. However,
online recruitment takes a lot of time and must be carefully screened for the
qualifications and reputation of the candidate.

3. Recruiting cleaner position


- Older workers can be a good option because this job doesn’t require good
qualification or high skill, and they don't need too much time to be trained or
practiced, so this work is suitable for the people who have just retired but they still
want to find job simply because they feel bored with idle life and not used to being at
home all day. Beside that, there are still a lot of elderly people who are homeless and
have very difficult circumstances, which means they have a demand to find a job, so
we can recruit them for this position to help them make a living. For the elderly, we
can hire them to work part time, take turns, while ensuring the health of employees as
well as the quality of work is always maintained at a stable level.
- Social media is also a great recruitment channel for cleaning positions. When
using media such as Facebook, Zalo, Twitter, etc, your company can reach a large
target group faster, far-reaching and low-cost as well. There are also some media that
are free-ad allowing you to save money. Newspapers are also an appropriate channel
for hiring these old workers.
