COVER LETTER (20 PTS)
A cover letter should introduce yourself to the employer and highlight the position for which you are applying.
The cover letter should also tell the employer why you are a good fit for the position and encourage a follow-up,
whether a phone call, email, or interview. Below is an example of a cover letter and the proper layout. You need to
create a cover letter for the job that you wish to apply. Save the file to the H:\ Drive as Cover Letter - your name.

Dear [specific named individual]:
First Paragraph:
The first paragraph of your cover letter should include information on the position you are applying
for, including the job title.
Perhaps I am the "multi-talented teacher" you seek in your "Multi-Talented Teacher" advertisement in today's Atlanta
Constitution. I'm a versatile teacher, ready to substitute, if necessary, as early as next week. I have the solid teaching
experience you specify as well as the strong computer skills you desire.
Middle Paragraph(s):
The next section of your cover letter should describe what you have to offer the employer. Mention
why you are qualified for the job and how your skills and experience are a match for the
position for which you are applying.
I am presently affiliated with a highly regarded private elementary school. Mr. Craig, the headmaster, will certainly
give you a good reference. The details of your advertisement suggest to me that the position will involve many of the
same responsibilities that I am currently performing. In addition to the planning, administration, and student-parent
counseling duties I highlight in my resume, please note that I have a master's degree as well as a teaching certificate
from the state of Georgia.
Final Paragraph:
Conclude your cover letter by thanking the employer for considering you for the position. Include
information on how you will follow-up.
Knowing how frantic you must be without a fifth grade teacher, I will call you in a few days. Or if you agree upon
reviewing my letter and resume that I am the teacher you need, call me at the home number listed above, or at 555-
7327 during business hours. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Your Name
RESUME (20 PTS)
A resume should have all the information a prospective employer would need to make a decision on whether
or not to hire you. Your resume needs to show your best attributes and be accurate. Customizing a resume to fit the
particular job you are applying for is beneficial and increases the chances of being hired. Below is an example of a
resume and an explanation of each section. You need to create a resume for the job that you wish to apply. Save the
file to the H:\ Drive as Resume - your name.

Contact Information
The first section of your resume should include information on how the employer can contact you.
Objective
What do you want to do? It should be a sentence or two about your employment goals. A customized objective that
describes why you are the perfect candidate for the job can help your resume stand out from the competition.
Education
In the education section of your resume, list the school you attend and any awards or honors you have earned.
Experience
This section of your resume includes your work history. If you have had a job before, list the company you worked
for, dates of employment, the positions you held and a bulleted list of responsibilities. If you haven't had a regular job
before, it's fine to include positions like baby sitting or pet sitting and any volunteer experiences you might have. If
you have not done anything, make it up.
Volunteer & Community
This section includes all activities that you may have done that were not paid jobs. This section shows to a
perspective employer that you are willing to work.
Interests & Skills
Include interests and skills that are related to the position / career field that you are applying for ex. computer skills
and language skills.

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name:

Use the first paragraph to thank the interviewer for taking the time to meet with you. Mention your interest in the job
and how enthusiastic you are about it.
The second paragraph of your follow up letter should include the reasons why you are an excellent candidate for the
job. List specific skills that relate to the job you interviewed for. The more detailed you are, the more the interviewer
will know about your qualifications.
The third paragraph (optional) can be used to mention anything that you didn't bring up at the interview that you'd
like the employer to know. This gives you another chance to make a good impression, especially if you remembered
something you should have said after the interview.
In your closing paragraph, repeat your appreciation for being considered for the job and let the interviewer know you
are looking forward to hearing from him or her soon.
Sincerely,
