Exercise 4. Essay A: Below are the population pyramids of New Zealand, Japan and South Korea, three of
the top 10 dream destinations of aspiring OFWs according to JobStreet.com. Choose ONLY ONE and study
it carefully. Answer the questions that follow in a concise manner.
Questions:
1.) What does the base and peak of the pyramid that you have chosen tell you about the
quality of life of its citizens? Why do you think so? Use the youngest and oldest sections
of the population as basis. 5 points.

Japan is the country that I have chosen because through the graph it shows that even though it
was a small and simple country, the quality of life is both excellent and astonishing. From the
based age of 0-4 years of age with 2% of male and 1.9% of female compared to the peak of
age 100+ years old with only 0.1% on female, there is no doubt that younger individuals
increase faster than older ones. But individuals with the highest peak at 45-49 years of age
with 4.0% on male and 3.90% on female are which can be considered as veteran professionals
which leads the industry and the economy of the country to reach a great and promising future
for the whole nation. The age groups of 20-24, 25- 29, 30-35, 35-39, and 40-44 are also
important since these age groups includes aspiring, developing and thriving individuals. Who
does not only prosper in skills and knowledge but are also seeking for great and better
experiences.
2.) Why do you think OFWs would really want to work temporarily or stay permanently in the country
that you have chosen? Explain by using the working section of the population as your basis. 5 points.

OFWs nowadays would only want to work temporarily for us Filipinos family plays a very
special place in our hearts. The age groups of 20-24, 25- 29, 30-35, 35-39, 40-44 and 45 - 49
are considered as the working groups in a country`s population. But considering our
population pyramid last 2019 the diagram shows that lower age groups have the highest
number of individuals, which shows that the individuals from the working group prioritizes
their family. Considering that family is important for Filipinos and their comfort zone lies on
the lands of their hometowns in the Philippines.
3.) Personally, would you want to migrate to this country? Give two reasons why you would
love to stay there and one reason why you would not. 5 points.

Personally, as a young millennial and as an aspiring professional, I would like to migrate to

countries like New Zealand, Canada, Germany or Netherlands if given the chance and
opportunity. For the reasons that our on-going conditions here in the Philippines like the
existing and now becoming violent natural disasters, especially Typhoons, Earthquakes, and
Erupting Volcanoes. I also considered our governments capability to handle situations like
this present pandemic that for almost a year of community quarantine still we cannot
establish great numbers of vaccines to protect and lessen the contraction of this virus. But
even though I would like to migrate for sure I would always comeback here in our home
country the Philippines.
Essay B: After reading (and personally seeing or hearing stories) about the pros and cons of
being a migrant worker, do you think it is still advisable to look for better paying jobs
overseas? Or do you think the risks largely outweigh the benefits? Explain your answer. 10
points.

After personally hearing stories about being a migrant worker, I do not think being an
immigrant / OFW or staying in our country is more important. The protection of government
and international policies should be given more attention because this is what people focus
more on. If Filipinos are given a good opportunity with enough salary, they will not hesitate to
work and serve their countrymen. While Filipinos abroad are known as Caregivers, Sea men
and Domestic Helper were seriously abused due to the unequal view of foreigners. Filipinos
are not stupid or uneducated if they are only given equal views, opportunities, and treatment
they do not have to choose between their family or their dream.
