I have here a short activity about spelling C-V-C


words. All you have to do is to supply the missing
vowel in each C-V-C pattern that tells the given
picture. Actually these are animal pictures. So, let’s
get started. Yes, ma’am!

In our Science lesson on animals , a cub is a baby
lion. A baby bear is also called a cub. How about the
baby bat?How is the baby bat called?
A baby cat?

Very good! A baby cow is called calf.
A baby dog is called puppy.

Gary, a 10-year old boy is lonely. His father is on


bed for three days now. He has an Arthritis attack
and couldn’t work for food. So Gary has to work in
their neighbor’s shop for an income. He washes cars
and motorcycles. Mang Ador, the owner, gives him
P100 as payment for his work. Gary buys P 20.00 of
pansit and several cups of rice worth P 50.00 and
excitedly runs home. How grateful his father is.
Then, they eat supper together.

(teacher unlocks arthritis as a chronic illness)


Now, it’s your turn to read the passage.

Who is the boy in the selection? (pupils do as told)


Why is he lonely?
The boy is Gary.
So what does Gary do? His father has an arthritis attack.

What work does he do? He works in their neighbor’s shop.


He washes cars and motorcycles.
What does Mang Ador give him? He gives him money.
What does he do with the money? He buys pansit and rice.

After buying food, what does Gary do next? He runs home and they eat the food
together.
(Teacher lets children read their answers highlighting
the action words.

Do you know how are these words called? (Yes/No ma’am)


So, this morning, let us learn about “Recognizing
Common Action Words”
(State objectives)

C. Presenting The highlighted words that we had earlier are action


examples/ words. Action words tell what someone or
instances of the something is doing. They are also called verbs. Here
new lesson are some examples of action words in the sentences.
(Presents sentences with verbs.)
The first sentence says : Yuri runs fast. The action
word in the sentence is runs. Why is run the action
word? It is the action word because it tells what Yuri
is doing.
(Note; Do the same for the rest of the sentences. Be
sure to always ask why and give explanations)

How about you? Can you give your own examples of


action words? (Call children)
That’s good. Danila, can you make a sentence out of
the verb, sleep? Sleep
Very good. What is the action word in the sentence
again, Cheryl? I like to sleep every afternoon.

Why is sleep the action word? The action word in the sentence is
sleep.
That’s correct. Because it tells what someone is

D. Discussing new Now, I will give you an activity to practice your skill
concepts and in recognizing action words. This is called “Guessing
practicing new Game”. (pupils do as told)

do is to guess the verb before it is finally revealed.
Each representative has to clap three times if he
wants to answer. The first to clap will the first called

number of correct answers, wins.
E. Discussing new I know you enjoyed the game, so here is another
concepts and game. It is called “ Act ‘n Roll”. I will call a
practicing new participant in each group. The other one will roll the
skills #2 roulette. Whatever verb it is pointing, the one who (pupils do as told)
rolls it will act the verb the other one from the other
group will guess the verb. The group which has the
most number of correct answers, wins.
(Roulette is rolled using the application in the
cellphone.)
F. Developing Now, that you are already equipped with the skill in
mastery (leads recognizing verbs, let’s have our final group activity.

Gary maybe right because he wants to help his
father, but our government does not advise children (Answers vary)
to work for money. They should be in school and
study at their age. Children who work for money is
called child labor. Gary’s case should be something
that the local officials should look into.
H. Making Again, what are action words? Action words tell what someone or
generalizations something is doing.
