Coriolis Well Performance

Measurement with
TM

Net Oil Computers

Benefits of Coriolis NOCs
– Works over entire range of water cuts
– Volume measurement not affected by:
• Changes in fluid density
• Changes in fluid viscosity
• Phase regime
– Density measurement is full stream
– One sensor can measure all variables
– Sensor not damaged by entrained sand
– Sensor not damaged by slugs of gas
– Net oil & water cut are temperature corrected
What is Net Oil and Water Cut?
 Definitions:

– Net oil is the volume of oil, corrected to a

reference temperature, that is contained within
gross volume of produced fluid

– Water cut is the volume fraction of production fluid

that is produced water
Water Cut Definition

23.1 gallons oil

45% Water Cut

18.9 gallons water

One barrel (42 gal) of

produced fluid at 60 deg F
Water Cut Definition

 The overall bulk density of this barrel is 0.89 SGU

23.1 gallons oil

0.8 SGU
45% Water Cut

18.9 gallons water

1.0 SGU

One barrel (42 gal) of

produced fluid at 60 deg F
Water Cut Definition
– Simplified water cut equation
– Not temperature corrected

Mixture density - Oil density

 Water Cut = Water density - Oil density
Water Cut Definition
– Simplified water cut equation

 Mixture density - Oil density

 Water Cut = Water density - Oil density

0.89 - 0.8
0.45 = 1.0 - 0.8

Accuracy of density-based water cut
 Function of the accuracies of the entered oil and
water densities

 Function of the bulk density measurement

 Function of the accuracy of the density versus

temperature equations

 Function of the difference between the oil and

water densities

Electric submersible pump

Advantages of no test separator

– Gathering system can use trunk lines instead

of test headers--less pipe, less labor

– Reduced capital cost of gathering station--no

test separator, no test manifold

– Full-time measurement on all wells--better

surveillance

– Less error--no valve changing, no keeping up

with well tests
