THE CONCEPT OF WAR:

DEFINITION:
Definition of war in the words of Russell, “conflict between two groups, each of which
attempts to kill and maim as many as possible of the other group in order to achieve
some object which it desires”.

WHAT WAR ACTUALLY IS:

If we look at the above given definition by Russell we can see that he is not in favor of war or he
criticizes war in it. It is true that the states involved in war never know how much war can be
intense or how much it will create destruction because no state thinks for the other state’s
advantage or betterment instead will fight till the last breath or till the achievement of the desire
thing. For it, that state will go beyond its limits

War is a situation of an intense conflict or an argument between different societies and

countries. It generally create extreme violence, destruction or aggression by involving military
forces. Some scholars cause war a result of human nature while some scholars considered it as
a result of certain social, economic or cultural circumstances.
The common causes of war are difference in opinions, religious conflict, and a territorial dispute
extra. . Every state have right to defend itself or keep it safe from other state’s attacks or fights
but war is not the only way to stay safe or to create peace. War should be the last option.
Whenever a state have these kinds of issues with another state the first and foremost idea click
to their minds to resolve the issue is always war instead of negotiation or a peace agreement
between them they always choose to do war to be successful in their cause. Although in some
cases a war might help to bring peace but that peace would be at price of either the loss of lives
of thousands of people or properties. If we look at the history we have so many examples of
this. Whether it was ww1 or ww2 or any other war it always brought destructions and
causalities within the states involved in the war and even outside those states too. These wars
proved that war does not result in peace and cause many sufferings. If we don’t set limits or if
we don’t end them ourselves they would be endless. If we have unlimited resources would
wars ever end? We will never reach peace by fighting. No state will stop itself until it become
exhausted or till the other state’s involvement to create peace between them. There are so
many examples of states have war but at the end they had to sign peace agreement to create
peace.
CRITICISIM ON THE CONCEPT OF WAR:
Here I will criticize the concept of war with the example of Yom Kippur War of 1973 which was
a joint surprise attack of Egypt and Syria at Israel. The war lasted from 6th of October to 26th
October. For Syria, this war was a disaster. The reason of this attack was that Israel captured
and occupied the areas Of Syria and Egypt, Sinai Peninsula and Golan Heights which were the
most important places for them. To get those places back Egypt and Syria decided to attack on
Israel at the day of Holy festival, they thought by doing war they will get those places back but
the result was the different from what Egypt and Syria thought. The unexpected Egypt-Israel
ceasefire caused Syria to military defeat and Israel seized even more territory in Golan Heights.
At the end Egypt had to sign Camp David Accords as a peace agreement with Israel to get back
Sinai Peninsula. If Egypt instead of doing war think something else like peace agreement or an
option of negotiation at first then this war will never happened and without any destruction
Egypt would get back its place.
Wars create a sense of insecurity. It makes people upset, distress and create hatred for others.
People feel insecure, they feel disturb and they stop living peacefully. If we look back at the
ww2 time, it create a lot of destruction and to bring peace in the world UNO was made as an
international peacekeeping organization and a forum for resolving conflicts between nations.
UNO replaced the inactive Leagues of Nations which had failed to prevent the outbreak of ww2.
By this we can understand that how much peace is important that an organization specifically
was made to maintain it.
MY OPINION:
In my opinion war is not the way to bring peace but I would say it is the way of destruction. We
might have different opinions, we belong to different sex, race, religion, we a apart by
boundaries of our states but the common thing in us is that we all belong to human race which
we should always keep in our minds but unfortunately the lust of achieving things makes us
forget this whenever we enter into such situations. We go beyond our levels to get what we
think of, no matter how much we will face for that. We never think of any losses or lives of
people, we never think of any other thing, we just get stick to our desire aim and only take
breath when we achieve it. War will never be able to bring long lasting peace. States will be hit
emotionally as well as economically. They will face physical loss as well as their mental health
will get disturb too. If we talk about war in today’s generation where so many states having
weapons of mass destruction, the war does not bring peace instead it will create more
destruction and despair. So according to me violence is not the way to bring peace. War is
neither a solution nor option to create peace. Instead of going to the option of war first we
should try to have peace talks or peace agreement or should do negotiation before ending up
to the option of war, because peace can be destroy easily but it will take years to recreate it.
