Butterfly

What I have learn in this weekly topic?

According to what I learned from this week's topic, the butterfly is a swimming stroke that
swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick.
While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by
beginners, the butterfly stroke, in particular, is one of the hardest strokes to learn. It requires
strength, stamina, and precise technique. The main difficulty for beginners is the synchronous
over-water recovery, especially when combined with breathing, since both arms, the head,
shoulders, and part of the chest have to be lifted out of the water for these tasks. Once an
efficient technique has been developed, it becomes a smooth, fast stroke. We also discuss
several tips on body position and breathing while conducting this type of stroke.

Why is this lesson relevant on my field of study?

This topic is relevant to my field of study since it may be useful in our swimming class.
Every BSMT student is expected to take a swimming class every school year, therefore
acquiring this skill can help us improve our swimming performance, which is essential in that
subject. The knowledge that we may gain from this is not just about the health benefits that
swimming can give us, but also techniques that could save us from water-related incidents.
Aside from the health benefits and survival skills that we could learn from this topic, it could also
serve as our recreational activities from our busy schedules at school.

How do I apply it on my time as future professional?

The swimming skills that I may learn from this topic were very crucial for me as a future
seafarer. Knowing the harsh environment in the open seas makes the lives of mariners at risk.
That is why it is required for me as a future seafarer to know different swimming strokes to avoid
further casualties like drowning, having an injury, or worse, death if an accident occurs. Aside
from that, the learning stroke that I may learn from this weekly topic could also serve as my
recreational activity from my busy schedules at work.
What I have learn in this weekly topic?
According to what I learned from this week's topic, medley swimming is a race that
combines four different swimming techniques into one: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and
freestyle. This distance is either swum by one swimmer as Individual Medley or by four
swimmers as a Medley Relay. In the relay medley, the order goes backstroke, breaststroke,
butterfly then freestyle. In the individual medley, the order goes butterfly, backstroke,
breaststroke then freestyle. The technique for individual medley events does not differ much
from the technique for the separate events for the four strokes. The main difference is the
turning technique needed at the transition from one stroke to the next stroke. Each section has
to be completed as described by the stroke rules of this section. While in the medley relay, the
first swimmer swims the backstroke normally. There is also no start signal, but rather the
previous swimmer completing his or her turn by touching the wall signals the start for the
subsequent swimmer. Aside from that, we also study the medley swimming's history and rules.

Why is this lesson relevant on my field of study?

Our ability to master the four major strokes discussed this week, which could help us in
real life and in swimming class, makes this topic relevant to my field of study. Every BSMT
student is expected to take a swimming class every school year, therefore acquiring this skill
can help us improve our swimming performance, which is essential in that subject. It is also
possible that we will learn not only about the health benefits of swimming but also about
strategies that might help us avoid water-related accidents. Aside from the health benefits and
survival skills we acquire from this topic, it could also be a way for us to unwind after a long day
at school.

How do I apply it on my time as future professional?

As a potential seafarer, the swimming skills I could learn from this topic were extremely
important to me. Mariners' lives are put at jeopardy because of the hostile environment on the
open seas. As a future seafarer, I will need to be able to swim in a variety of strokes to avoid
further injuries, drowning, or, worse, death if an accident occurs. Aside from that, the learning
strokes that I may learn from this weekly topic might also serve as a way for me to unwind after
a long day at work by doing something I enjoy.
What I have learn in this weekly topic?

The sport of artistic swimming, which I learned from this course, is a sport in which
swimmers perform a synchronized routine of complicated gestures in the water while being
accompanied by music. When upside down underwater, synchronized swimming requires
extreme water abilities, strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry, and exact time, as well as
exceptional breath control. Competitors demonstrate their ability to do demanding routines while
demonstrating their strength, flexibility, and aerobic endurance. For the judges, swimmers
execute two routines, one technical and one freestyle, as well as age-group and figure routines.
I've also learned that this event is only exclusive for women, which I hope to be available also
for the men's category since I know that there were certain male athletes who can thrive in this
particular sport.

Why is this lesson relevant on my field of study?

This lesson is significant to my field of study since it can help us stay motivated in our
studies. Seeing success performances like those who achieved by artistic swimmers inspires
me as a college student. It may assist us in keeping motivated despite the challenges we
encounter in our studies. Their path to success was not simple, and they had to make a lot of
sacrifices to acquire the status that they have now. That's why this lesson is relevant to our field
of study since it may encourage us to strive for our goals and work hard for our future. Aside
from the morals that I gain from this topic, I was able to learn several swimming techniques from
those famous artistic swimmers that may help us in our swimming class.

How do I apply it on my time as future professional?

This lesson could be applied to my time as a future professional since it could help us to
be motivated for our job. Just like its benefit to our field of study, the dedication and passion of
those artistic swimmers inspire us to work hard and smart in our respective job. As a future
seafarer, I could expect that we may face a lot of struggles like being away from our loved ones
or having a hard time coping with our job, but through the help of this lesson, we were able to
stay grounded and passionate in our craft even if it is hard. Just like those artistic swimmers,
they also sacrifice a lot of things to enable them to achieve their dreams, that's why the
struggles and problems that we may face in our job are normal. We just need to do our best
because everything could be fine. All of the blood, sweat, and tears could be worth it as long as
we strive and work hard for our dreams.
What I have learn in this weekly topic?
For this week's topic, I was able to learn that breaststroke is a swimming style in which
the swimmer is on their chest and the torso does not rotate. It is the most popular recreational
style due to the swimmer's head being out of the water a large portion of the time, and it can
be swim comfortably at slow speeds. However, at the competitive level, swimming
breaststroke at speed requires endurance and strength comparable to other strokes. It is also
referred to as the "frog" stroke, as the arms and legs move somewhat like a frog swimming in
the water. The stroke itself is the slowest of any competitive strokes and is thought to be the
oldest of all swimming strokes. We also discover the history, techniques, and styles of
breaststroke swimming in this particular topic.
Why is this lesson relevant on my field of study?
This type of lesson is important for our field of study since it could help us towards our
swimming class here at Mariners. The BSMT course requires a swimming class every school
year, that's why it is important for us to learn this topic since it could help us to become
competent and good in our swimming class. It also encourages us to be physically active in
our daily lives, ensuring that our bodies are fit and healthy to tackle the challenges we will
experience on our journey. Since the BSMT program is such a physically demanding
curriculum, we must maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, which swimming may help us do.
