INTRODUCTION

Organic fertilizers refer to organic materials, which produce organic matter upon
decomposition. It mainly contains agricultural residues, dropping of animals etc. In
this method of farming, all the essential nutrients for crops are present in small
quantities and the soil gets all the nutrients that the crops need for their growth. At the
same time, organic manure has a good effect on soil composition, air, temperature,
water retention capacity, bacterial numbers and their reactions, and preventing soil
erosion. Therefore, the use of organic fertilizers is very important to keep the soil
organic matter stable. Organic fertilizers have been used in traditional farming for a
long time in our country. Chief among these is compost manure, which is prepared in
cities with garbage, other farming residues and cow dung. Dung manure has higher
nitrogen and phosphorus than other compost. Almost all the essential nutrients are
found in organic manure. Composting is the natural process of recycling organic
matter, such as leaves and food scraps, into a valuable fertilizer that can enrich soil
and plants.

Anything that grows decomposes eventually; composting simply speeds up the

process by providing an ideal environment for bacteria, fungi, and other decomposing
organisms (such as worms, sow bugs, and nematodes) to do their work. The resulting
decomposed matter, which often ends up looking like fertile garden soil, is called
compost. Fondly referred to by farmers as “black gold,” compost is rich in nutrients
and can be used for gardening, horticulture, and agriculture.

LOCATION

College Place: Mar Ivanios College for Advanced Studies (MICFAST), Chengaroor,
Mallappally. (Pathanamthitta District)
Student Place: Palackathakidi P. O, Kunnamthanam, (Pathanamthitta District)

2.2 Method selected for composting

Pipe Composting

This method using PVC pipes placed over ground within households can store
degradable kitchen waste for a period of time to break down the waste into manure. It
is the most suitable and convenient method for composting.

2.3 Sources of waste

The composting process is done by using kitchen waste such as Egg shells, neem
leaves, banana peels and other green kitchen waste.

2.4 Material used for composting

Garden pot, Bio bin and PVC pipe can be used for composting process. Here, I’ve
taken PVC pipe Composting method.

2.5 Time taken for composting

After completing all the steps for composting, an enriched compost manure will get
after 30-60 days.

2.6 Weather conditions prevailed

The changes occurring in weather condition does not affect the composting process.
Composting process can be done either summer or monsoon season. I had initiated the
composting process on summer season. The materials required for making the
compost has been kept close the changes of weather condition does not affected the

composting process.

2.7 Implementation of composting and materials required

The materials such as kitchen waste used for composting has been disposed on the
PVC pipe. A rubber basket, sickle for digging the land etc., are used.

2.8 Top dressing

After filling all the waste on the PVC pipe, soil has been put on the top layer of the
compost.

2.9 Refilling of PVC pipe for composting

Soil, dry leaves, kitchen waste are filled continuously to the PVC pipes. Thus by
filling it continuously the PVC pipe become fully filled.

2.10 Completion process

The compost will take 30-60 days to decompose into manure. Here my compost
had taken 50 days for decomposing process.

COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS

Page | 16
COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS

Total amount spend on compost manure making is 0. By making the organic manure
there is no loss because most of the materials used are easily available at my house.
PVC pipes were not available here so I got it from my neighbouring house. There’s
no such need for money for the composting process.

CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION

Organic manures are dynamic substances which can be produced by farmers with
less investment. The source raw materials and fertilizing the soil techniques vary by
geographic area, yet assume an important part in sustainable agricultural
production. The farmers can recycle the waste produced from the previous crop
residue and livestock. Not only he can sustain the land fertility, but also can save in
purchasing of chemical fertilizers. The production of agricultural produce under
organic fertilizer will boost the yield of the crop compared with inorganic fertilizer.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

As an analysis of my project I hereby submit a sum up of various activities

performed. Organic fertilizer production summarizes on feed the soil to feed the
plants. One of the largest industry throughout the world is agricultural industry. It
accommodates huge employment both for skilled and unskilled labor. In this vast
agricultural business opportunity side, one can think about this fast growing
manufacturing of organic fertilizer in any part of the world.
