Table Tennis

- intro about t/t

- history of table tennis in vietnam

Table tennis was introduced to Vietnam around 1920. In the North by

overseas Chinese merchants, in the South by the French colonialists, this is
also a recreational sport for the elite. In 1924, table tennis had flourished in
big cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, and Saigon. At this time, table
tennis tournaments were organized according to the regions of the North, the
South, and the Middle.
Vietnam table tennis has since continued to develop and reap some successes
from regional and international tournaments.

It can be said that, in the 50s, Le Van Tiet and famous players such as Mai
Van Hoa, Tran Canh Duoc, Tran Van Lieu ... brought Vietnamese table
tennis to the highest peak as one of the world's great powers of table tennis.
After 1975, the country was affected by many factors that Vietnamese table
tennis has become much less and is lagging behind.
In 1993, Vietnam returned to the arena, SEA Games 17 with the goal of
research and received the gold medal of the program (Tran Thu Ha and Nhan
Danh Quan).
From 2002 to now, with the increasingly strong progress of Indonesian,
Filipino and Thai players, and the trend of naturalization for Chinese,
Singaporean and Malaysian athletes, Vietnamese table tennis has made
Vietnamese ping-pong more popular. Nam has almost lost its position even
in the smallest regional arena. At the 23rd SEA Games (Bacalod,
Philippines), Singapore dominated and Vietnam left empty-handed. In 2004,
athlete Doan Kien Quoc won the only ticket in Southeast Asia to attend the
Athens Olympics, but he also failed to achieve anything.
