Listening – Audio Script
Coach: You sound a little down in the dumps, Cesar. Is anything bothering you?
Cesar: I guess I’m a little homesick, coach, that’s all.
Coach: That’s perfectly normal for the first two or three weeks at least. Don’t worry, you’ll feel at home in no time.
Cesar: I hope so… If I’d known it would be so different from home, I’d have brought more stuff with me. Food for
example.
Coach: I know what you mean. I remember the first time I had to swim in the north of Japan. I had a hard time
adapting to the food there, not to mention I thought I’d freeze to death.
Cesar: You trained in Japan? I had no idea! Well, that sure puts things in perspective. Thanks for that!
Coach: No problem. So, how’s life in Florida? Warm, I suppose.
Cesar: You bet. It’s a lot hotter than in Rotterdam – and more humid too. I’m getting used to wearing shorts
everywhere.
Coach: That’s good to know. And how about swimming practice? Is it very hard?
Cesar: Mr. Burns is really demanding, but after training with you no one scares me. I should’ve known you’d
choose someone tough.
Coach: I’m glad to hear that! Anyway, I’m sure this experience will help you develop your skills even more,
including your spatial intelligence. That’s essential for an Olympic champion, you know?
Cesar: Whoa, whoa, whoa, easy there, chief. I know you trust me, but let’s take this one step at a time, all right?
Coach: OK, OK, sorry to put so much pressure on you. It’s only because I know you can handle it. You’ll be ready
sooner than you expect. In the meantime, work hard and don’t forget to have some fun, OK?
Cesar: I will, coach, I will. And thank you so much for the support and everything else.
Coach: I thank you for your dedication. Take care.
Cesar: Bye bye.
