CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides a broad overview of the research reported in this thesis
and it introduces the research strategy of the thesis. The chapter begins with a
discussion on the background of the study. Next the chapter discusses the research
objectives. The statement of the problem is discussed next. This is followed by the
significance of the study. Then scope and limitation is discussed next. Lastly
definition of terms are introduced.

A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The pandemic has resulted in schools shut all across the world; billions
of children are out of classroom. As a result education has change
dramatically. The Department of Education (DepEd) has come up with a
solution by changing interactive learning into distance learning. This uses
learning modules, computers and electronic technology to facilitate students
learning by themselves .The modules is based on the most essential learning
competencies (MELCS) developed by the teachers with the aid of curriculum
developers.

In short distance learning that solves the problem of learning in this

pandemic situation is the modular and online approach that employs a self-
contained educational package. That’s an “anywhere” to an “anytime” to an
“any pace” delivery method. This is the usage of learning modules and online
classes that allow students to learn on their own.

The interactive learning, which is also the traditional way of learning.

It takes place in a classroom setting. A hands on/real life approach to
education founded upon building students engagement through guided social
interaction. Where, there’s a trainer who moderates and regulates the flow of
information and knowledge. Games, scenarios, quizzes, and videos are some
of the most essential elements of such interactive learning.
Janina Molina Dargo and Michele Dimas of University of the
Cordillera has study the the effect of distance learning in the academic
performance of students they have concluded that the academic performance
of the students after the implementation of distance learning have
decrease. Therefore face to face learning or the interactive learning is more
favorable and more effective in terms of students learning.According to their
respondent, limited interaction between the teacher and students was the main
problem that emerge on the distance learning

As the learning methods change, students academic performance can

also be affected in each learning methods and that effects will be known in this
study

B. OBJECTIVES

The primary objective of the study is to identify the effects of

interactive learning and distance learning method on the academic
performance of students in Dipaculao National High School. The study would
provide the benefits and downsides of each methods. The researchers believes
that this study would allow students, teachers and parents to identify which
learning method is needed to be practice the most as it is the most reliable one.

C. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to provide the effects of two learning methods to

Grade-10 students of Dipaculao National Highschool. These research question
is needed to be answered to achieve the objectives of this study:

(1) What were the student’s perceptions in Interactive Learning and Distance
Learning?
(2) What are the disadvantage and advantages of Interactive Learning and
Distance Learning?
(3) What learning method do students mostly preffered to use;Interactive
Learning or Distantce Learning?
D. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Students and teachers - This research will let them know the most applicable
learning method for them.
Parents - the result of this research can be use as reference on what learning
method is the best for their children.
School and community - This study will let the school and community to
identify which learning method is needed to be practice the most.
Future researchers – They may use the findings and the result of the study to
future research that is comparable to what this study is all about.

E. SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

This study focuses in what’s the most effective learning method;

Interactive Learning or Distance Learning. The selected set a grade 10
students consisted of 20 males, representing 50% of the participants’
population, and 20 females, constituting another 50% of the population. The
study would make use of surveys to test the hypothesis. It would take place in
Dipaculao National High School, Brgy. Mucdol, Dipaculao, Aurora.
