Informational Research Essay

A very controversial but vitaly important topic that focuses on the strive and benefit of

the health of a nation is the Universal healthcare system. The real question is, “Is universal

healthcare the way to go?” That answer is for many to answer. Although the main goal is to

support people in one’s country and offer safe healthcare.

What is universal healthcare and what are the positives and negatives of it? The main

goal of universal healthcare is to offer health coverage to all citizens in a country or nation.

There are 3 forms of universal healthcare and are known as Private Insurance. Private insurance

is known as the type of healthcare that is the most costly for the people to pay. Another example

is Socialized Medicine, this takes the form to be known as were the hospitals are privately owned

by the government. Lastly the Single Payer System is where nurses and doctors own their private

business and run it for services. As stated by the World Health Association “It includes the full

range of essential healthcare services, from healthcare prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and

palliative care”(The World Health Association). These are the three main examples of commonly

used universal healthcare systems. But what are the positives and negatives of the use of these

systems?

Some positives to universal healthcare are mentioned In The Balance “The federal

government offers it to everyone regardless of their ability to pay”(Amadeo). This means the

people have lower healthcare costs to pay when paying their bill after their treatment. Also

heavily sedated in Thales “Life expectancy covers many aspects (from genetics to hygiene,

lifestyle, crime rate) but can also be correlated with health and easy access to

healthcare”(Thales). When stating this, this opens up many opritinited for people to have

emergency access anywhere with the same costs everywhere. This correlates with hardly any

financial hardship since the government pays for it via taxes. Although there are still some

negatives to the use of universal healthcare. As explained in the article Thales, “Healthier people

pay for those in need of healthcare, and treatment is undoubtedly a question of

governance”(Thales). Meaning people have to pay money to pay for those in need at their

expense. This may seem unfair, to add to it all it creates the worker medical careers less

fulfilling. By this happening, it creates the fear of the quality of care decreasing. This can be a

detrimental factor because nurses and or doctors not wanting to go to do their job will increase

the chance of bad patient care and service. An additnal factor to consider, is the switch from

going from the US current system and suddenly to Universal healthcare. It could be hard on

many areas affecting healthcare. All of these facotrs play a huge role in the use of Universal

Healthcare. There are many examples of places that use universal healthcare such as Italy,

Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Brazil, ect. Again the main question is whether we switch to

universal healthcare?
