IN ENGLISH 1

Learning Competency: Recognize rhyming words in nursery rhymes, poems, songs


heard. (ENPA-IIIa-e-2.2)

I. Objectives
 Recognize rhyming words in nursery rhymes, poems, songs heard.
 Find the rhyming words in nursery rhymes, poems, songs heard.
 Value the importance of knowing the rhyming words in nursery rhymes,
poems, songs heard.

II. Subject Matter


 Topic: Recognizing rhyming words in nursery rhymes, poems, songs
heard.

A. Preliminaries

 Prayer
Hello children, before we start to our lesson, (one student will lead the prayer)
kindly stand and let us pray first, (call a student - “In the name of the father. . .
to lead the prayer). Amen.”
 Greetings
Good Morning Everyone! - “Good Morning teacher
Roselyn!”
Okay, class you may now take your seats - “Thank you, teacher.”
 Checking of attendance
Say present if your name is called. (Student’s will raise their hands and
say present when the teacher calls
their names)
 Passing of Assignment
(The student will pass their assignment
Kindly pass your assignments in front

 Review
At this point, we are playing the Yes or No
game. I am going to read words and you will
tell me if they sound the same or not, through
showing me your thumbs up sign for yes and
thumbs down for no. Don’t worry if you didn’t
get it right since, this is just a review I promise
you will master this skill as you go along with
our class.
Example:
- “Fox-box” do they have the same sound
if yes what will you show me?
- Correct it’s a thumbs up sign. One more
- “fan-fat” do they have the same sound if
no what will you show me?
- That’s right it’s a thumbs down sign

 Motivation
Today, we are going to sing your one of your (student’s sing the song)
favorite nursery rhymes. Join me in singing
Twinkle-twinkle little star.
- Can you give me some examples of
words that have the same sound from
- star & are
the song?
- high & sky
- star & are, Very Good! What else?
- high & sky Very Good!

A. Activity
Activity 1
In the same group, read aloud the words in the
box first, then select all the words that rhymes
with the picture and write it on the back of the
picture.
(Student will do the task)

- You did an excellent job, I bet you are

Activity 2: Pick & Write


- This time I have a poem entitled “The
Frog” let us recite them together.
Our next activity is pick and write. This time we
are going to use show me board can you
please get it.

I saw a little frog,

He was cuter than can be,

He was sitting in a log

And I’m sure he croaked at me!

C. Abstraction
Rhyming words are two or more words that
have the same or similar ending sound. You
have to use your ears to listen as you say the
words.
- Now let us look at these examples

Rhyming words can be read and listened to


in stories, poems, and songs. They can help
the story, poem, or song sound more fun and
interesting.
Rhyming words can also help you read a
story, poem, or song more easily.

Always remember that two or more words that


have the same ending sounds are called
Rhyming words.

- I will group you into 3 groups. All you
need to do is write 2 rhyming words in
each of the following.

V. Assignment

Cut 3 pictures of 3 pairs of rhyming words from old magazine. Paste it on your notebook.
