Pandemics are defined as outbreaks that occur in large areas, across


international borders and typically affect a large number of people. The large-
scale outbreaks of infectious disease can greatly increase mortality over a
wide geographic area and cause significant economic, social, and political
disruption. Coronavirus Disease 2019, also known as COVID-19, is a global
pandemic that found in late 2019 in Wuhan, China.

As a result of the outbreak, numerous governments and regions have paused


tourism and hospitality businesses in order to control the spread of COVID-19.
People had to limit the movement because to the quarantine and act as a step
to stop the spread of the virus. Furthermore, people also limit regular
gathering activities such as cancel the big event that had been planned like
concert, opening event of new attraction and festival for avoid the crowded
place as well as for follow the guideline principle that stated by Majlis
Keselamatan Negara (MKN). Plus, people make efforts to stay at home and
refuse to take vacations under that scenario.

According the issue, the pandemic has ushered in a new lifestyle with people
measuring social distance, wearing masks in public, using hand sanitizer and
isolating themselves from symptomatic individuals. Malaysia has announced a
list of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to maintain the safety of the
people and to prevent the spread of the virus so that the tourism and
hospitality industries can be operate back.

ANALYSIS OF RECREATION AND THEME PARK

The outbreak of COVID-19 caused severe losses in the tourism and


hospitality industry which has brought lots of revenue to a country. In addition,
this outbreak also reduced the income of tourism and industry because the
industry had to cancel and postpone all events that had been planned.

According to the issue, lots of cancellation and postponement of the event in


the tourism and hospitality industry. For example, Visit Malaysia Campaign
2020, MATTA Fair, The Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and
more. According to the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyBEC)
has announced the notice of events cancellation and postponement as to take
precautions of the outbreak. The business events canceled and postponed
following the COVID-19 pandemic and overall impact following the whole
business events.

Due to the notice of cancellation and postponement of the events, lots of


events make a new step to hold the event by virtually programme but some
events are canceled and still in postpone status overall since 2020.

Malaysia had established a general strict SOP for COVID-19 prevention as


well as public safety. The COVID-19 SOP, which is 3W practice. 3W stands
for Wear, Wash, and Warn. Wearing a mask requires people to practise in
public. Wash is to regularly wash one's hands, whereas warn means to be
aware of the infection, as formed by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM).
To prevent the COVID-19, people also need to avoid crowded places and
confined spaces, avoid making any handshake between others even though
people offer it and avoid touching faces. Therefore, people also need to make
sure to maintain the social distance minimum 1 meter when talking to others.
Last but not least, to enter a place or store, people need to measure body
temperature using a thermometer provided by a store, use hand sanitizer and
check in MySejahtera before entry. This is as data for KKM as purpose for
managing and mitigating COVID-19 outbreak.

1. Limited person per gathering group and entry. The gathering group to
access the venue must be held in 4 people per group only. 20 people per
entry if the place is big, meanwhile 4 people per entry if the place is
confined space to avoid crowds for entering the shops.

2. Contact less entry. Booking the entry tickets online through the official
website. The booking ticket would be given with QR code to access the
venue with the date and time. E-money for the buy and sell process such
as debit card, credit card, Touch n Go and more.

3. Itinerary plan. Encourage to book the Itinerary plan as created by the


organizer. The itinerary plan would ease the visit planning.

4. Frequency and extra cleaning and sanitizing. Training the staff on extra
cleaning and sanitizing. Sanitize the place every 3 hours. Increase the
frequency of cleaning and focus on places that have highly touching areas
like edge holders, chairs, doors, lift holder, elevator buttons.

5. New hygiene technology. A proper procedure by sanitizing the whole


body and things before entry with Full Body Disinfection Sanitizer. The
venue must provide an automatic hand sanitizer dispenser in every
strategic place that people would stop by such as a sitting place, entry of
any shop in the recreation and theme park.
