U S E F U L WORDS
Well, most of these are possible - the best thing to do depends on
where the crocodile is at the time. If it comes towards you on land,
AND P H R A S E S
experts say you should turn around and run away a s fast a s possible. L e a r n these words and phrases.
Crocodiles can run faster than humans over a short distance, but they
pockets "pokits/
soon get tired. If they miss their first chance to catch their victim,
backwards /'baekwsdz/
they usually start looking for something else.
b i t e /bait/
f l o a t /fbot/
If you're in the water, then splash around t o make a noise so t h a t the
shout /Jaot/
animal gets confused. If this doesn't w o r k , push your t h u m b or fingers
s t i n g /stm/
into the crocodile's eye. This is the most sensitive area of the crocodile's
suck /sAk/
body and it is the place where you can cause the animal the most pain .
tie /tai/
It will also be very surprised by your attack and it's quite possible t h a t i t
will decide t o leave you alone. Don't t r y and open the crocodile's mouth wave Aveiv/

because the muscles are so strong t h a t this is nearly impossible. keep s t i l l / k i : p 'stil/

However, if the crocodile is in a bad m o o d , it's possible t h a t it will carry on

fighting. Your final o p p o r t u n i t y is t o p r e t e n d t o be dead. If the crocodile
thinks t h a t its victim is dead, i t opens its mouth f o r a f e w seconds t o move
the body into its t h r o a t . This can give you your last chance t o escape, but
it's a very dangerous plan.

Our final advice? It's much better to avoid crocodiles than t o do any o f the
things above...
