Stories by Catherine Lim is a reflection of a


society whose silence is perturbed by
the bustling struggle against poverty,
prostitution and degradation of values
of Singapore among the youth. The taximan becomes
the simulacrum of this group of society
whose cries are overshadowed by the
grandeur of Singapore.

I. Characters:
The taxi man- narrator of the story. He is hardworking, loving
yet strict and courteous. His personality is round and dynamic
because his character developed from being calm and
aggressive father.
The passenger, “Madam”- the person whom the taximan is
telling the story. Her character is flat and static because she
never answered the taximan.
Lay Choo- the taximan’s daughter. Her personality is round
and dynamic because at first she seemed to be an obedient
daughter but soon his father discovered her secret.
