At the next scheduled inspection, but no later than the accumulation of 50 service hours after
release of these Service Instructions, or if canning of the skin or loss of rigidity is indicated in
either the upper or lower surf ace during the visual inspection, an inspection hole is to be cut in
the outboard elevator skin to provide access for inspecting the main spat and the outboard
leading edge rib flanges for possible cracks. If cracks are found in the rib flanges or the main
spat, install the elevator update Kit No. 100-4005-1 S or new elevators as specified herein.
Inspection of the main spar and the outboard leading edge rib flanges is to be repeated as
described herein at each 400 hour interval following the initial cutting of the inspection hole,
until update Kit No. 100-4005-1 S or new replacement elevators have been installed per these
Service Instructions. 1
