Tonification point: is the point that corresponds to its Mother—the preceding Element on the Sheng
or “Creative” cycle. We observe that, on this cycle, Wood is the Mother of Fire. It creates, promotes,
and feeds Fire just as a Mother would feed her child.

Sedative point: This point is of the Five Shu points corresponds to the 'son element' according to the
law of Five Phases. The Qi of channels and organs can be sedated by stimulation of this point. Thus,
this point is needled in excess conditions with stimulation by the sedating method.

Influential point: are eight important points where qi of the respective body tissues is infused into
the body surface, namely zang, fu, qi, blood, tendons, vessels, bones and marrow. "Hui" means
influential in particular.

Distal point: places needles away from the area of pain or discomfort. Common examples are for
knee complaints the needles often go in and around the elbows; painful shoulders respond well
to needling the lower legs; and for headaches and migraines I commonly needle the feet.

Analgesic point: This point is also called as pain reliver. This point relieves pain during a therapy like
tooth ache, low backpain, head ache etc.

Emergency point: The Twelve Hand Jing Point is the golden recipe to rescue all kinds of emergencies
such as sudden deaths, coma and cholera. With regard to the wind stoke-induced unconsciousness,
the acupoints that are commonly applied are DU-26, PC-9, LI-4.

Motor Recovery point: It is a line starting from a point (known as the upper point of the motor area).
Motor recovery points are used to simulate the nerves. Helps in treatment of paralysis.

environment of body towards the normal state, regulates respiration, heart rate, blood pressure,
urinary excretion, metabolic rate, sweating etc.

Anesthetic point: These points are used to sedate the patient like clinical anesthesia during the
treatment.

Dangerous point: Acupuncture generally works through insertion or needle in skin or muscle. At
certain areas the needles are not allowed to insert. For example, at REN14, deeper insertion is
prohibited to avoid damages to liver or heart. Similarly there are many dangerous points in the body
where needle insertion shall be avoided, instead pressure shall be applied.

Auscultation

abdominal sounds and other abnormal sounds such as hiccoughs, belching, sighing and sneezing.
Olfaction
Olfaction involves the assessment of the patient’s bodily odor, and the odor of the bodily secretions
and excretions, or the patient’s reported observations of the same

Palpation consists of the examination of the pulse as well as points or areas on the abdomen and the
back.
