Sample Question & Answers (5 Marks)
(Please Study about picture and point location along with all answers)

1. Write the influential points and its uses.

The influential points are 8 important points where Qi of the respective body tissues is infused into

GB39: Benefits Marrow, Tendon & Joints
REN12: Major point for Stomach disorder
REN17: Insufficient lactation

2. Write the yuan source points of all primary channels.

Yuan source points are related to specific Yin/Yang organ. These points are where the Yuan Qi, the
body’s primordial Qi pools.
Yin Yuan points can be used to tonify the 5 YIN organs (LU9, H7, P7, SP3, K3, LIV3)
Yang Yuan points are not used to tonify organs but can be used to expel pathogenic factors and or
release excess patterns (LI4, TW4, SI4, ST42, GB40, UB64)

3. Explain about dangerous points.

Acupuncture generally works through insertion or needle in skin or muscle. At certain areas the
needles are not allowed to insert. For example, at REN14, deeper insertion is prohibited to avoid
damages to liver or heart. Similarly there are many dangerous points in the body where needle
insertion shall be avoided, instead pressure shall be applied.
Few examples of Dangerous points are LU1, LU9, H1, SP4, LIV3, LI18, SI17, ST21, ST25, UB1, UB10,
UB67.

4. Define xi-cleft points and what are they?

Xi-Cleft points are where the meridian Qi accumulates deeply and are indicated for the acute and
pain disease of respective Zang Fu organs and meridians. This is also called as “Accumulation points”
LU-6: Main point for Allergy, Asthma, Bleeding, Coughing blood, Epigastric pain, Skin Disease, etc.

GB-36: Benefits the tendons and joints, Neck pain, Clears heat, Leg pain, etc.
5. Draw the diagram and locate important points on face.
6. What are distal points? and write its uses.
Distal Acupuncture places needles away from the area of pain or discomfort. Common examples are
for knee complaints the needles often go in and around the elbows; painful shoulders respond
well to needling the lower legs; and for headaches and migraines I commonly needle the feet.

7 Benefits of Distal Acupuncture

1. No needles go in the affected area
2. Accessible areas
3. Faster Result
4. Fewer Needles
5. Fewer sessions
6. Natural healing

8. Explain point types with examples.

Jingwell point: are 12 acupoints located at the tips of the fingers and toes, except for Yongquan
(KI1), which is located on the sole. These points together constitute the first set of Five-Shu points,
next to the nails, and form the origin of the 12 Yin and Yang meridians.
(Points are LU11, H9, P9, SP1, K1, LIV1, LI1, SI1, TW1, ST45, UB67, GB44)

Yuan source point: are related to specific Yin/Yang organ. These points are where the Yuan Qi, the
body’s primordial Qi pools.

It increases the resistant power in the body. This point can regulate immune function and treat the
underlying cause of the disease by reducing symptoms, speeding up the healing of infection and
normalizing the body’s immune response. It works by stimulating specific portions of the autonomic
nervous system through selected acupoints, which in turn causes responses in the immune system.
This point can cause a rise in levels of interferon, on of the immune system’s messenger hormones.
